I heard this rumour years ago and thought it was a joke. This morning I saw the commentary for the new movie Cloud Atlas and he was in it, now calling himself Lana! Freaky.

Not really. If he'd become a dominatrix, possibly. There's a lot of philosophy and religious themes in the series and stuff to do with the body, brain and self and stuff. But I really did not get a domination vibe from the films.

The lead singer of one of my favourite bands is going through transgender re-assignment. In the punk scene, you can imagine how difficult it was to come out and admit this. But when you look back at previous work he did and read his lyrics with this new knowledge you suddenly realise it's been a long time coming.

I've great respect for Laura Jane Grace after she revealed her struggle with transgender dysphoria, but the punk scene is, in my experience, one of the most tolerant and welcoming communities that there is.

Unless you're into Nazi punk stuff.

Most of my experience is the Oi and Street punk scene. The attitudes of some is prehistoric. On everything from gender issues to race. Unfortunately.

Ah, that makes sense. My experience is predominately in the hardcore, pop punk or skate punk scene so yeah, a lot more welcoming there. I'd probably put Against Me! in that area, myself.
