Hey guys,

Let's not natter around, lets go straight to the point.

I want to keep a system cool, and when I mean cool I mean cooler than the Fonz.

So this is what I've come up with, as I'm kinda working with a budget here.

And ofcourse, the links.

YOUR BASKET
1 x Fractal Design Arc Midi Tower Case - Black £79.99
1 x Antec Kúhler H2O 620 CPU Watercooler £54.98
Total : £147.28 (includes shipping : £10.25).

So would this be a viable option, or can you guys think of anything better?

I assume cooler than the fonz means quiet(ish)?
In which case a different fan on the 620? The stock fans on the 920 were loud as hell on full pelt...
Could try a Gentle Typhoon 1850 or the new corsair sp120 fan?
Havent read anything on the 140mm inc case fans so cant comment on those :-)

Have u looked at the Fractal R3? Altho the hdd cages are not removable

Is your budget £150 or £140 (u 'qualify' for free shipping)?

if you want quiet fractals are good however

fast rpm fans would push more air making it even cooler but bit more noisy

This is purely on cooling, noise isn't really an issue to me - and I've been informed that the R3 isn't fantastic for cooling in comparison to the Arc Midi.

Would the R3 be a better option then?

Considering going for the Gelid Tranquillo CPU Cooler instead, just read the issues with the Antec Kuhler online - looks like a miss for me.

So it'll give me a bit more money to pack the case with better 140mm fans for cooling.

Something like these BitFenix Spectre fans.

The front 140mm would be taken off and moved to the top of the case with the two BitFenix Specture's coming in and throwing air toward the sizable 6950 and Tranquillo.

Coming in at £127.74 (without P+P) it's a bit cheaper and may offer the case a bit more of a chance for doing what I want it to do.

Edit: A picture because it makes it easier to visualise.

Ditch the top mounted intake fan, you'll just be dumping warm air back into the case. You should never have an intake fan at the top of the case, as warm air will sit there due to convection. It's best to draw air in near to the floor as that is always the coldest spot in any room.

Have a look at this, it's actually done in an R3 which is very similar to an Arc Midi, I found it very useful: http://www.bit-tech.net/hardware/2012/02/10/the-big-cooling-investigation/1

It has all sorts of comparisons, 1 thing I would recommend from it is actually keeping the forward roof fan slot empty, as you may well achieve better results on your cpu there than if you had a fan on intake or exhaust. Have a read though, I found it interesting if nothing else.

Great read.

So there's no need for additional fans after 3 - as long as you're venting it well.

I think that there's plenty of venting on that setup, especially around that CPU cooler.

Thanks for sharing that.

Exactly, with venting you can pretty much get away with 3 fans, though it would be interesting to see what results you could get if you put in more powerful fans, say 2 exhaust (1 rear and one roof rear) and one front, to see if you could get that air corridor, as the Fractal Design fans they were using weren't powerful enough for that...

I guess still just experiment with various setups and see what happens, I just used that as a guide really.
