Decent headphones without breaking the bank??....

I'm currently using a pair of TurtleBeach X11 headphones left over from my Xbox360 days.

They are decent enough but there's always a low level hiss on them when there's no sound coming through. This has been a problem when I had them on the Xbox also.

Looking for a decent pair that don't have this annoying problem and won't break the bank!

The hiss will be caused mostly by your source, not the headphones. I'm guessing on-board audio. One of the main reasons for a dedicated sound card is to get a clean output.

Nah. The hiss is the headphones mate. It's a known issue.

I should have said - with a mic also. Although I have yet to use one for PC gaming. Would be handy to have

a lot of people here would recommend a separate mic, especially when you want the best sound for the price.

My Sennheiser wireless headphones also have a bit of a hiss at high volumes when it's quiet but that's just part of the way that wireless technology works afaik!

You might want to specify your budget

Budget wise no idea mate.

I've paid £150 for headphones in the past.

About £50 max? Is that dooable for decent headphones? Wired also - not wireless.

There were some cheap panasonic or phillips headphones on the jersey free delivery website, some people here were reccomending them.

That was a while back and I'm not sure if theyre gone from there now.

Haven't seen many sub £50 headphones recommended but those RP-HTF600E-S that Papalazaru mentioned earlier are one of them. The Creative Aurvana Live! headphones are also supposed to be very good for that price range from what I have read but can't vouch for myself.

Performance wise, they're identical to the Sony 7506's (Pro-grade, industry standard studio monitors. Google it) I picked up for a friend (he loves 'em), but cost less as they're the consumer versions.
They sound fantastic with a good source. Within a couple of minutes of listening to mine via my blackberry, another friend ordered a pair on the spot.
Do not mistake these for V600's!

I've got the Samsom SR850, think I got it for around £20-£25 and they're brilliant. Was quite shocked how good they are tbh for the price. I had some turtle beaches I bought for use with the xbox, and the difference is startling for half of the price too!
