Looking at getting a cheap old MX5 for fun in the summer.

Currently I've got 7 years NCB, can I use this against the MX5? or can it only be used for one car?

If it's worth say £500-1000, how does the excess work? Do you only have excess deducted from the value of the car in a total loss?

With the excess set to £250, I get a quote of £233 (first quick quote I've tried)
Then I set the excess to £0 and got a quote of £241..

Any advice appreciated, only going to be doing say 6000 miles max a year

some insurers let you use the ncb against both cars on a single polict (SKY and CCI do this) You could also split 3 years off your dc2 policy and move it to the MX5 if all the insurers involved offer this.

I'll get my mechanic mate to check it over for me, paintwork is a bit tatty, but someone else who went to see it said the frame looks in good condition. (he is also a mechanic, who owns another MX5)

Now to tell the mrs, we'll be spending some of our wedding gift money on this, 'for future holiday fun'

Providing it has 195/50/15, I'll pretty much take it and sort anything else out that needs doing

not many insurance companies will allow you to split the NCB you currently have. If you get a quote with your current insurance company they might mirror your ncb and give you the same ncb on both cars.

your excess is payable in all claims including Total loss.
If the claim is your fault , you are correct it is deducted off the market value settlement they will offer you. If your not at fault the excess would be claimed back and forwarded on to you.

classic policy with restricted mileage might be worth a shout, most classic car policy dont give NCB though so make sure you check firstly

The MX5 had been sold, but the place was a body shop, so may book in my car to get a few niggles sorted out.

Strangely, the chap had a Razer Deathadder on the office pc :D
