Just increasing the memory ratio and setting the timings/voltage to whats on the label on the sticks.

Indeed, small adjustments in BIOS as Stulid said to match what's on the sticks.
Alternatively you could try XMP setting in BIOS.

I've just bought this chip and ddr3 dual chan 2x8gb corsair vengance chips at 1600mhz - should I cancel my order and buy some faster stuff?

3rd gen cpus are capable of much more than 2nd gen, up to 3000MHz i think, if your brave enough buy some samsung green, they can be OC'd to speeds up to and beyond 2400MHz and they are CHEEP!

or if you dont fancy OC'ing them just buy some high speed ram like this
