So i have £1600 to spend on a new system and i would appreciate it if you guys could cast your eyes over this spec and provide some feedback.

CPU - Intel Core i5-3570K 3.40GHz
Cooler - Noctua NH-D14
Case - Corsair Obsidian 650D
Motherboard - MSI Z77A-GD65
SSD - Samsung 128GB SSD 830
Power Supply - Corsair Professional Series AX650
Headphones - Beyerdynamic DT 770 Pro 250ohms
Keyboard - Corsair Vengeance K90
Storage HDD - Seagate Barracuda 7200RPM 1TB SATA 6Gb/s 64MB Cache
Memory - 8GB Mushkin Enhanced Redline Ridgeback / Radioactive
DvD drive - Samsung SH-S222BB/RSMS
Sound Card - Asus Xonar Essence ST
O/S - Windows 7
Graphics card - KFA2 GeForce GTX 670 EX OC 4096MB

Couple of things that i want to check mainly, is the case going to be big enough for the parts and is the power supply able to handle all the parts?

This above spec comes in £100 or so shy, so i could either get the i7 3770k or a 680 4gb, just wondering if either are worth it?

Thanks.

Well why do you need a 4GB card? What monitor are you playing on?

Otherwise the build looks good, the sound card seems a little overkill but if you want good sound then i guess you get what you pay for, the case is great by the way ;)

Well the 4gb graphics card might be overkill for now, but i dont want to be falling short in 2 years time, which is the legnth of time i'd be waiting for my next upgrade.

I've already seen screenshots of 1920x1080 using 2gb of vram in games like BF3 and Skyrim.

650w will easily do a 670, especially as it's a Corsair PSU. However, if you're planning on going Sli down the line then you may want to think about going 750w PSU.

If I were you I wouldn't bother getting the 4gb GPU, I'd stick with a 2gb instead and go Sli later.

Also I would change the HDD from a 'green' drive to a 7200 RPM one...

And you may want to think about getting some low profile RAM as the Phanteks may not have the clearance over it otherwise... something like this (some of the best stuff out there atm): http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=MY-017-SA&groupid=701&catid=8&subcat=

Sorry i haven't updated the list.

I've changed to Seagate Barracuda 7200RPM 1TB SATA 6Gb/s 64MB Cache.

I have also swapped the phanteks to the NH-D14.

The memory i'm still up in the air, but i think it'll be the Mushkin Radioactive variety which is lower profile.

You can get the Gigabyte UP4 for less money than that MSI GD65

But the GD65 does included free RAM

Sounds good, the NH-D14 is a great cooler (I just can't find myself attracted to the colour :D)

Make sure to go 750w PSU if you plan on Sli/Crossfire.

Best of luck :)

The MSI motherboard is about £150 from OCUK, i've bought the board and got the ram, now selling the ram on ebay for £45, if i make that, it'll take the board down to £105, so i think that will make it very good for that price! :D

Not the only one, which is probably why i'll change them for penetrator's. Or something along them lines, push/pull to the rear fan, directed air flow would be quite important.

Best of luck :)

My last system was SLI 460's and while they where awesome, the lack of SLI profiles and microstutter got to me after a while and i'll be glad to be away from SLI.

if you've got extra coin waiting to be spent, why not look at a bigger SSD?

I don't want to fall into the habbit of letting my SSD become a storage device and a 128gb size will allow me to install windows 7 and 2 maybe 3 games. Which is really all i want it for.

If i have some money left over in the build i'll probably upgrade the graphics card to a 680.

second that 128GB will be eaten up quickly with new games... Max Payne 3 <cough!>

Well i dont keep them installed on there.

For example i played SWTOR on my previous 60gb, stopped playing and just transfered it to my normal storage drive.

Then installed Skyrim and did the same as above.

I never keep games installed on there for longer then is needed unless there MMOS.

At most i'll probably have W7, my essential programs and probably guild wars 2 and another game as i play though it.

With regards to the ram i just can't believe that, that ram is any good! :p

I know i know, fancy heat shields do it for me!

I'm really struggling deciding on which ram to get, i'm flirting between the G.Skill 1600mhz series and the Mushkin Radioactives.

I have to take into consideration the size of the CPU cooler and i need either low profile or removable tops like the Dominators.

Any suggestions?

looks good and excellent cans

I've been told they wont work with the xonar essence st, even though quite a lot of people have both of these combinations and also they can power up to 600ohms.

/shrug i'm not an audiophile, but i'm trying to understand some of the basics to get me through.
