Hey guys,
Been reading so much info the past 4 days. I will essentially be gaming on my system, including some video encoding.

Bogged down with info but from what I've read I think I'm gonna go for the following :

http://imageshack.us/f/21/36527356.jpg

- Intel Core i7-3930K 3.20GHz (Sandybridge-E) Socket LGA2011 Processor - Retail
- Asus X79 Sabertooth Intel X79 (Socket 2011) DDR3 Motherboard
- Corsair Dominator 16GB (4x4GB) PC3-14900C9 1866MHz Dual/Quad Channel Kit (CMP16GX3M4X1866C9) **SPECIAL**
- Noctua NH-D14 Dual Radiator CPU Cooler (Socket LGA1366/LGA1156/LGA1155/LGA775/AM2/AM2)

Still toying with whether to go for the 3820 or not. Something is just drawing me to the 6core unlocked multiplier of the 3930k.

Regarding coolers was a toss-up between the h80/h100/Noctua/. Read a lot of positives about the noctua outperforming the h100 and a lot quieter.

Memory i've gone for middle-ground between 1600 and 2400 corsair. (almost half the price too).

Was going to go for a pre-overclocked setup but changed my mind rather quick. Fancy the challenge again + can customize the parts better + cheaper! :).

Plans to ugprade GPU closer to christmas and swop out my 570. Just got a Vertex 4 128gb SSD.

Many thanks in advance,
Adam

You sure the dominator fits under the NH-D14?

You have a 2011 version of the NH-D14, with PWM fans. Dunno which to choose from but worth reading on.

Don't forget you also have the SilverArrow, SilverArrow Extreme, and the Phanteks that are close or sometimes seem to outperform the Noctua.

As for the rest, It's expensive stuff but that's your prerogative.

If you want overclockable ram, but also low profile, look up the Samsung Green 30nm sets. It's also cheaper. That'd probably be my choice.

From experience i can telll you for certain that 1-2 sticks of the dominator will not fit under the NH-D14. But you can remove the spiked top of the head spreader no problem and then it'll fit without any issues.

Thanks for the responses guys. May still go for the h100. Would altering the fins not void my warranty? Ive made a fair few claims on past corsair memory. Find the warranty service exceptional.

The only time the h100 out performs the D14 is at extreme temps. So unless you feel your chip will reach around 80c then i doubt the h100 will out perform the D14.

Yeah just thinking though if i want the corsair memory gonna need to butcher it to get it going with the d14. Whereas with the h100 it wont be an issue.

Not at all!

The way i set up my previous system with the D14 and Dominators, i moved them to the 2nd memory slot on each and in the end i only had to take the top fins off 1 of the memory sticks. Its very easy to do and it doesn't spoil the look much.

Without the heat spreader would the memory be at risk of damage? overheating etc?

Been looking into the samsung green. Looks pretty good + lifetime warranty etc. But the corsair has better stock timings etc so would really like to stick with it.

The Samsung Greens have a reputation for being quite good at overclocking, if it matters. IMHO RAM speeds have a small effect to warrant the extra cost unless you are benching.

Just ordered guys.

3930k, Asus sabertooth, phanteks CPU cooler, 16gb corsair dominator 1866mhz quad channel and radeon 7970 :)
