So on the back of the recent EU ruling here we have Gamestop first to stick their heads above the parapet.

The world's largest gaming retailer is researching "technologies" to create a secondhand digital market.

According to GameStop CEO Paul Raines, the retailer is considering "some technologies out there in Europe" that would allow them to create a used games market. Raines didn't elaborate on what these "technologies" were, but noted that "a few companies, a few startups" were already using them.

Not going to work is it GFWL/Steam/Origin all forbid selling the account few notable games do not use these services.

Publishers/Developers are not going to let this happen they will put more DLC in & or withold game content for registered accounts only there are many way they can stop this altogether.

lets wait and see shall we ;)

Stupid gamestop.
Second hand is NOT good for the games industry, and certainly not the already fragile state of PC gaming (Because of all, you know, horrid console port DRM ridden games we're getting)

Thankfully, its far from in the hands of retailers to demand a used digital market, thats up to the owners of the IP.

Besides, I think the entire premise is pathetic, we already have crazy sales on pretty much every distribution site/client going.

I'm sure they can write up new contracts with digital outlets, stating they can only sell their games on the premise they do not pre own them. Steam had better stay away from this, last time I checked Valve weren't ****'* like the rest of these places.
Doesn't matter what they put in their contracts, they still have to comply with EU law.

Businesses should be made to keep well away from anything involving used digital games. I think it's fair enough on a personal level, you can sell games you don't like or have finished so you can get funds to buy another game. I mean they're not selling ANYTHING! They're selling a code, if that. There is no difference between the 'new' digital copy and the 'used' digital copy and so should not be able to profit of off them.

Gamestop should be hung, drawn and quartered for even thinking about doing this.

em you do know about the EU ruling don't you - please say you do or have you just posted without really understanding whats been going on in the last few weeks ??

With all the cheap games though, to want to sell your digital games on to others is dirty. Its worse than pirating, much worse.

no one is forcing you to sell tho are they, all the EU legislation is doing is that for those that do want to sell them on - Distributors will have to allow you to do so.

That's not the point though, this is a situation where people have a right to care and judge what others do, because selling on digital games is not going to effect the PC market well at all. Its selfish and I hope to god every PC game comes with a one use content pass that unlocks the last half of the game, or something. Definitely online passes like the consoles.

What a stupid statement.

Pirating means one copy can be turned I to millions.

Second hand, you can only buy if some one sales.

Hardly, not as many pirated copies stay pirated as you might think. Also who's worse, the person who puts you on the floor, or the one who comes out of nowhere and stamps on your face? That's what this is doing, if pirating has crippled the market, this second hand b/s is going to paste its innards all over the place.

Another stupid analog.

Producers will make far more money of second hand games, than they would have pirating. As second hand games have to be sold in the first place. Only one copy can e used at anyone time. It also means people can free up money to buy new games.

Selling stuff second hand is a basic right that should be maintained. Has It destroy the games market?
