Commodore 64 is 30! (I feel old)

ooooo, I had the C64 facelift version (i think its known as the commodore 64c?)

My favourite games were Flimbo's Quest, Arnie 1&2, the Dizzy series, Barbarian 1&2, Altered Beast, Paperboy 1&2, R-Type, Turrican 2 and the all time classic Who Dares Wins :)

I had a suitcase full of games though, but cant remember most of them.

I seem to remember one called Strider 2 being quite good though.

I wonder what I did with all of my copies of Zzap!64......:D

10+ minutes to load buggy boy?!

I remember games taking forever to load but seem actual time has been left out of my memory of the c64/Speccy!

I'm amazed the primary school kids knew what a tape was!

Infiltrator - OMG! I felt i was really piloting that chopper!! To start the chopper was a task in itself!

"This is xxxx, what is your callsign?"

Depending on whether you inputted the correct one (good guy or bad guy) depended whether you got blown out of the sky!!

Awesome.

I was 7 or 8 when I got mine. One of the best presents I ever got.

Quickshot II Turbo joysticks!

Once got a Readers Letter printed (in C&VG or was it Zzap!64) about the poor amount of game saves in Indiana Jones & the Temple of Doom game.

And I defy anyone to say they never `taped to tape` games ;)

Plus my school mates step-dad programmed the games Poster Paster & Ghettoblaster :D

And that was the 1st time I saw a 5.25" floppy disk & drive... WoW!

1541 II was the best drive although you could also get a 1581 which was C128D only. Oceanic (Datel brand) also made a drive but the compatibility was terrible (£130 in 1989 was a LOT of money back then:eek:).

Obviously I kept some of my old C64 stuff some rare games, 1 C64 + PSU+2 tape drives (you could buy 1 with a red light & autotune the tapes to ensure better loading success). & the huge brick 1541 drive.

Still has some amazing games on it to this day & people still make new ones using 512KB Flash Ram cartridges plus Prince Of Persia was released as well last year

In 1998 I found some website based in Poland (long gone now) which had a massive archive of the games so still have a huge collection stored as disc/tape images but there are plenty of places to find these easily as most have no copyright anymore & are public domain unless they renewed the copyright.

You would be amazed that you can also build your own USB interfaces to backup your own C64 collection there are several sites showing you how to build this to preserve the games as this old 5.25" disc & tape media fades badly over time & usually becomes unreadable eventually :(

I defy you as never did mate bought over 450 all originals back in the day some cost £29.99 for US imports on disc a shop near tottenham court rd used to import them as it was hard to buy disc based games in UK. In the 1980's £29.99 was a lot of money for a game

Posh git ;)

Yes I think I went through about 3, last one is up stairs with my computer and Amiga ;)

Stelly

I went through 2 in 14 years, the first one lasted ages (10 years +) and i played it every single day, at least it felt like i did. The second was the 64c and i remember that the sound chip couldn't handle samples as well as the old one :( which ruined the music for Turbo Outrun.

My fav C64 game of all time was Turrican 1 & 2. I played it all the way through at least once a week until the second C64 died.

C64 - The best 8-bit computer of all time

Scroll to 3:00 mintues to see what the SID chip could really do, it was mind blowing for the time!

Thanks for posting this! I was 16 or 17 years of age when I composed it. I prepared all the samples in a day and right after I went "clubbing" and got home pretty "drunk", but very inspired, after a lovely night dancing away with my gf. Then I sat down in front of my good old C64 and composed the tune (in assembler) in one session of 6/7 hours. Very pleased with the result! The (complete) Turbo Outrun music won the 1989 PCW Show "Best Music on 8 bit Computers" award! Yay! //JT
