Best sub £200 Card

My vote is for the 7850. It is a great clocker and will handle BF3 on "full" ultra @ 1080P with a decent OC. The 570 is a good card but even with me being a nvidia fanboy, my money would be going for a 7850.

Danzal -summary/choice: if you're not going to overclock then Griff is partially right. 1.25GB of VRAM will be enough because you won't have enough GPU power to power the settings which will require more VRAM. In this scenario the 570/7850 are relatively similar.

If you're willing to overclock (read: move some sliders) then the 7850 is the only real choice. I think if you let this thread loiter before you purchase you'll hear a lot more people saying the same thing.

Please do check out that thread I linked. The results users are getting from their 7850's while overclocked are astonishing levels of performance for £200.

Another fact is the 7850 IS better than the 570.

And? I've never said anything to the contrary.

If you care to read back I actually said I'd "personally" get the 570. At no point did I say it was better than the 7850 and I actually said they were "both great cards".

My only disagreement was the whole VRAM saga but we've done that to death already.

So the 570 isn't better, but you'd 'personally' still buy it over a 7850? May I ask why?

Dislike of AMD/Ati drivers and CCC and my 570 has performed well for me while I've had it. Also taking future upgrades into account I'd prefer to go down the SLI route rather than Crossfire.

That enough for you?

Well the thing is, it is a simple fact that a 7850 is faster than a 570 when both are overclocked, it uses far less power, produces less heat and has a larger Vram for the future. At this point in time, there is no good reason to buy a 570 over a 7850 when both are the same price. There is a reason why everyone here is saying to get the 7850.

Please accept my sincere apologies for having a "personal" opinion.

The OP asked which card I would suggest. I answered it. At no point did I say it was the best card since sliced bread and I went on to say they are both good cards which the benchmarks attest to.

Can we move on?

@ Danzal - Please don't let this thread put you off the forum. Not every member is as anal and touchy as some above because someone dares to have an opinion different to the rest of the herd.

Why not wait until the 660 ti's pricing is announced. From the review it looks like great specs, and if you buy a 500 series card now, when the 660 ti is released there will be a huge price drop resulting in you being ripped off. The 660 ti is speculated to be priced around the £200 marker anyways. Its set to be released on 16th of august 15 days! :D

There's nothing wrong with AMD drivers as far as I can tell. They work! Get the best card for the money, don't worry if it's red or if it's green.

Look, I'm not being touchy, but I don't want OP to make the wrong choice because someone (with an obvious bias- as a 570 owner) says to get the 570. Things get outdated, so although the 570 was a great card during its time, it is poor value for money nowadays compared to the 7850. If I was a 570 owner, I would be telling OP to get a 7850.

I going to say this one last time.

Had I said "Get the 570, it's the best card ever" then you'd have a valid point (about me being a biased 570 owner). However I said I'd "personally" get the 570 and subsequently gave you my own reasons. At no point did I say anything negative about the 7850 and I said they were both good cards.

Of course the OP could ignore the forum altogether and make a decision based merely from benchmarks, graphs and black and white figures but people join forums such as this for personal opinions and discussions.

Sometimes peoples opinions differ and the majority may go against them. It doesn't justify shouts of "fanboyism" and ****ging people off.

You seem a reasonable chap so I hope we can put this behind us and meet in another thread in a more positive nature.

As above the 7850 is the card to go for. The reason I'm posting though is I can't understand why this thread has turned into an unpleasant slanging match. The OP posted a thread asking for advice on what GFX card to get. One guy advised to get a 570, the other a 7850. It is up to the OP to make an informed decision and do his homework by reading reviews, benchmarks etc. There is no need to shoot the other guy down in flames just because he recommended a 570! He is entitled to his opinion as much as the next man. He did also mention that both were very good cards. Let's keep this thread a little more positive and constructive as I'm sure the OP originally thought it was going to be. :)

Edit: Incidentally, my friend has a 7850 and it overclocks like a beast!

I would get a hd 7850. It overclockes like a beast and has 2GB Vram.

With the core clock at 1200 and the mem at 5500 you will get about 40 fps in Heaven 3.0 maxed out at 1080p. Not all cards will do that though.

When playing crysis 2 and battlefield 3 I have seen my ram usage go above 1.8gb

Thank you mate.

Hey, I'm not shooting down anyone, I'm just surprised that people would recommend a 570 over a 7850 at this point. I really don't think you can accuse me of being in a 'slanging match. I'm happy to hear people's reasons for recommending one over the other, it's just I don't see what the 570 offers over the 7850, whereas the 7850 has many benefits over a 570 (I myself have had no problems with Ati/AMD drivers). But as you say, at the end of the day it is OP's decision to make.

I hate to tell you this but you're the one sounding touchy and anal. You say Spency is hypocritical but that is the exact same trait you're displaying.

I said you were wrong to suggest a 570 (as you say this is an opinion based thing) and you started getting all funny by basically saying that anyone that disagrees with you is anal when all they're doing is giving an opinion. You flew off the handle about VRAM and haven't calmed down since.

All that happened from what I can see is people giving their opinions which is itself your own defence for saying what you're saying. Fine. So why all the bloody drama?
