Hey guys,

Now, this is seriously baffling me.

RMA'd my 7850 as I believed it to be faulty, after doing loads of tests that is.

Ordered a 7950 and received it today. Now... I don't think it's the card that's the issue. I'm getting BSOD and "Display driver AMD has stopped responding and has recovered"

Trying to increase the volts to the card I get BSOD. This is confusing me beyond belief.

No overclocks on the CPU, the RAM isn't causing the issues (Swapped out with brothers and errors still occur), haven't tried a different PCI slot with this card just yet.

Sounding to me as if it's the PSU... I never had any problems with my 5450, however this didn't require dedicated power from the PSU. It seems to be the fact that connecting the modular cables for PCI-e power to the GPU cause the fault.

Any ideas?

What psu do you have and how old is it?

edit: also, you should try uninstalling the amd drivers and running driver sweeper before re-installing them

XFX 650w modular 80+ bronze.

Received it in February this year.

E: I did a fresh install of Windows before installing my new card, just to be certain it wasn't driver related.

Is your MOBO BIOS up to date? Worth a try.

Yup. Did that last time.

I think I have sorted it for now... This (Surprisingly) didn't work last time, but so far it's working a treat.

I've swapped the card into a different PCIe slot. This one IS labelled up as x8 (Not sure if it'll be x16 without a card in the labelled x16 slot) but it's working with no problems right now.

I'll leave it running on Heaven Benchmark whilst I walk the dog, if my computer is fine when I'm back it must've been the slot.

Thanks for the the help though guys

Glad it is working but you are losing a little bit of speed with it being in the 8X slot (seriously negligible though). Maybe your top slot is broken?

Don't know if thats of any use, some sites (from google) are say its MS related an others are saying its the Psu

Is it stable in the X8 slot? If so and you still get "the display driver" error, try adding 0.06 volts and see if that helps. Also I had this problem with my 560TI many moons ago and for a couple of months I tried everything from messing around with the TDR and running on 1 stick of Ram (both worked for a short time). The only win for me was adding volts and I never see that problem return.

Yeah.. I thought I would be. :/ Still. Getting min 45fps and max 115fps on Heaven! :)

Definitely think there's a fault with the top slot.

Could be PSU related... But it seems to be my top slot. x16. :/
