Hi all,

I have a 2.0Tdi Passat B6(57), car has done about 55k and due a service to go in for a service tomorrow.

Gave the VW dealer a call and they said that VW reccomend to change the timing belt along with service at 80k/4years whatever comes first.

They quoted approx £350 for just the timing belt change, and he says its up to myself if I wish this done now or later.

Whats your opinion guys?

I thought it was 60k/4 years nowadays? Thats what I was told when I had my 56 plate Golf serviced a couple of months ago anyway.

Whatever it is, you're due a change :)

Are you planning on keeping the car ? If so for how long ?

If you're planning on keeping it for a couple/few years then Yes, If you plan on selling it in the near future then No.

try an indy for a better price but definetly get it done !

This, i got my cambelt and waterpump done for £280 on A6 (probably same engine?) Then i provided my own oil and got the service done for an extra £45 so £325 all together + price of oil.

Echoing others - get the water pump done at the same time. You can order the cambelt kit from VAG yourself if you want to save a bit too (or get a 3rd party one).

Hi guys thanks for all the advice much appreciated,

Had the service today, and in the notes it states:
'both front steering arms have play £331 inc vat'

What do you guys think of this price to fix the steering arms from vw dealer?

Get it changed, I would also ask them to replace the water pump at the same time.

Yes, amd make sure they change the tensioners too!

Generally, it's going to be cheaper at a specialist. I would check it out and get another opinion at least

Bad advice. It's not a rare car, so if a potential buyer looks at it and sees that the cambelt hasn't been done then they'll just disregard it and move onto the next.
