PS3 Trouble?

Hi Guys,

I came to turn my PlayStation on tonight, however the screen simply displayed a black image.

Reset the Display info (holding down the power button for 5 seconds) and put it back into 1080p.

After this I started it up and it ran to the normal menu screen (i.e Where you would select game, music, internet e,c,t.) However when i try to load a game, or a DVD or Blu-ray the screen goes black and the PS3 locks up.

Does anybody have any Idea what this maybe? I'm thinking maybe the laser/ reader has gone ?

Any help or advice is much appreciated.

have you tried to load a downloaded game ? it does sound lazer related.

Sounds more like the graphics rather than the drive, the drive wouldn't make the screen go black on boot up.
@Op are you getting any yellow lights?

No Yellow Lights, However Like I said I can through to the Internet,Video,Music,Options scroll screen, its as-soon as I try to boot a game / DVD. It's not the end of the world if It is broken, but If there was a cheap fix I would rather apply that, than spend 188£ on a new PS3.

Credit where Credit is due, it has lasted nearly 5 years :D

you can always buy used one.I might sell you mine

Hold down the powerbutton when you turn it on. It will reset your display prefs, might help if a game is trying to use a mode it should. Ive had it happen with blu rays where screen just acts like there is no signal for some random reason, even though the setting I enable afterwards will be exacty the same. Just a random quirk maybe ;)
