I am more or less in the same situation as yourself but I have not purchased one yet. I would be curious to see what you think of it when you get it.

I am looking to use external monitor for my DELL XPS 17 .

Another thing with this monitor you get Warranty: 3 Years On-Site with Dell . It has 16 good reviews from buyers .

Sure it's a brilliant monitor, one of the best for colour reproduction and perfect for your needs if you get a good panel with no issues, if you don't send it back you shouldn't pay so much for these if they aren't in good working order.

Arguably a 1920x1080 screen would be better for blu-ray's but black bars never bothered me personally.

As for photoshop, if you're working with wide gamut pictures then yes it's the cheapest decent wide gamut monitor. There is more to that than just the monitor however and if you don't know what I'm talking about now then you're not making use of it. If you don't use the wide gamut feature it's a rather expensive monitor compared to it's cheaper Dell U2412M brother. The tftcentral.co.uk review highlights the differences between the u2412m and the u2410.

The u2412m has better Black and should be better for Photography. If prices drop in next month or two, that will be my next purchase.

That Link was Great, just what I needed to set my Profiles correctly in my New Build PC. The Onboard Intel 4000 graphics was preventing my Spyder2 profile from loading properly. THANKS.

What are the Dell UltraSharp U2410 like for calibration and what is the best way . Trouble is the u2412m does not HDMI
HDMI is the same signal as single link DVI (without the sound) a simple adapter that does nothing to the signal itself but simply provides a different plug is cheap and without loss of quality. So why do you need HDMI?

Don't worry about it so much it's only a monitor and a lot of people don't get to have a decent screen like the U2410. Your life will prevail over this purchase.
