Yup Scooby really helped and educated me when I started out, his videos are perfectly accessible. Not sure if natty, considering age but maybe he has that perfect combination of genetics and perfect diet + experience? He doesn't have the steroid 'look' either, nom sayin?

Nor did Zyzz and he cycled.

Got my new shoes, feels a lot better for squatting/olympic style powecleans, so much more steady and deeper at the bottom of a powerclean and that's without my knee wraps!

Normally have knee wraps/ chalk to use but forgot my locker key today >_>.

Gonna get a lot of use out these bad boys, definetly a good purchase for £90, highly recommended for you guys! (spend less on preworkouts or something to justify the buy? ;p)

I think we agreed there is some benefit for high bar/front squat for those who don't have really good mobility.

Powerlifting shoes are a bit controversial on here if memory serves! :p

Yeah Im aware, just thought Id throw in here because there tends to be a "oh I should listen to him because he made a good point about X supplement/training method/eating method" mentality.

I find it best to test opposing opinions on such things (eg. intermmitent fasting/ eating many times a day). Overall though I'm very lax on my eating/training and I guess that's why I'm not making UBAR gains (not too bothered)

P.s. if anyones got some good tips/articles for performing powercleans/ clean and jerk I'm all ears

Hmm before last night I hadnt deadlifts for over 2 weeks, got some serious lower back pump going on! Might have to bring them in to my 15's and 10's weeks and just keep them lighter then can actually manage just so I don't get hit by this crazy pump every time I hit 5's lol

So what sort of shoes should I be wearing for things such as Deadlift and Squat?

I'm still wearing my fitted Saucony running shoes.

Anyone got any feedback regarding indoor rowing machines? As I'm looking for something for an all over work-out, I'm not really interested in gaining mass at the minute, just more of losing a bit of weight and then to start toning up.

Buy a Concept 2, ideally a Model D, but a model C with D handle would do for a cheaper option (standard handle is crap). Don't bother with cheap machines a concept 2 is the only way to go..

Check on the Concept 2 forum calssifieds for a good deal.

Officially entered my next comp, day before my birthday!
All of us from the gym are going so I'll be competing against 2 in the novice group. Both are stronger than me, but will still be aiming to beat them of course :D

Events:

Novice
1 - overhead medley: 50kg dumbell, 65kg keg, 75kg axle, 85kg log, 95 yolk
2 - deadlift: 200kg olympic bar reps 75seconds
3 - tyre flip: 400kg head to head
4 - Car pull: arm over arm uphill, astra + 1 person in seat
5 - load and carry(5 metre to platform): truck tyre, oak block, 65kg keg, 100kg dumbell, 125kg husofel stone

Doesn't seem overly heavy so conditioning and speed will be where points are won and lost!

Is it worth hiring one? (can do this from their website) As they're quite pricey.

They were discussed a few pages back.

The only problem is when people just buy them without much consideration.

If you have a mobility problem with a low bar back squat, fix it rather than relying on a crutch. This has implications that far outreach casual weightlifting, and competitive lifters should be especially conscious of the general state of their bodies.

People who front squat or oly lift should almost invariably use them. It'll be reasonably rare for someone to be able to front squat ATG without them and not have compromised ankles/feet.

Narrow stance squatters can benefit from added quad involvement, but they aren't essential here.

Can you elaborate the front squat point? I can hit depth much easier with front squats as the bar is further forward, my centre of mavity is brought forward so I need a lot less ankle mobility (which is crap for me). I mean knees forward mobility, dorsiflexion is that?

To have a nice quad loaded front squat you have to be very upright throughout the lift, and there's no way of doing this without either going very wide (don't, it's a front squat not a sumo-whatever) or having your knees come forwards (yes, dorsiflexion!).

Overhead medley looks fun :) But the car pull is quite light isn't it ?

Get pics whatever happens :D
