Could do with some help here please guys my God Son has just had a New PC bought for his birthday and he has been playing a game on his dads PC called minecraft

I told him I would buy him the download (paid) version rather than the demo he plays on his dads PC

here lies the problem Java wont install and the damned game wont run without java being installed

and have spent 3 hours this afternoon messing about trying to get Java installed and it just wont have it at all

it errors saying missing runtime.exe every time or installation failed

tried downloads from two different sources and its the same with both

I have no clue about this game apart from it failing with the java thing

any one offer any help with this please

What are the PC specs?

See in the Control panel if there are any old versions of Java, then uninstall that, then check the Program files if there are any remnant Java files before installing the new versions?

Ones here usually works for me: http://java.com/en/download/manual.jsp

not 100% sure what the exact system has in it
AMD A800
Radeon GPU
4gb unbranded memory (not known)
windows 7 home premium

I only popped up to set the email up on it - then as things do my God son asked me if this game could play on his PC
me not for one minute thought it would lead to an all afternoon head scratching session (PC's dont you just Love em)

in the add remove programs there is Java version 3 in there but that was installed with the windows setup disc on the PC so I have not uninstalled it as its a new PC and NOT Mine so hence my hesitation to start messing with a new PC

I would uninstall it anyway. Could be interfering with the new Java, I think version 3 is too old for Minecraft hence the error, and 3 might be too old to upgrade from.

i know zero about minecraft, but i was having problems with my online banking( it uses java to login)

discovered that there are 2 java versions, 32 & 64bit. the 64 bit doesn't auto update, it has to be manually installed and updated at the minute as far as i understand. even tho i was using a 32 bit browser i still had to update the 64bit version to get it all working.

You need to update that version of Java, its very out of date. The game should work fine with the new version of Java installed, and there is no way at all that you could do any damage to a single thing by removing it. Java 3 is pretty old and that I would say is why Minecraft won't run.

un-installed the older versions of Java and still the download wont install
will go back later and see if I can get anything from the Orcvader post link that will install

A small update
I found a a thread elswhere about the problems with java and this game
and to cut a long story short I used a link to a small java add remove program which worked a treat removing all traces of the old Java

however the latest version of Java installed straight away but the damned stupid game still wont run on the PC giving runtime errors and saying cannot run this game

so in essence what really bad experience trying to install a game for a 10yr old hours of head scratching and it still wont play so I have looked for patches and can see nothing but endless people saying they also have the same java problems with this game and cannot get it to run

so at this point I have had enough of this stupid game - my God Son is gutted but at the end of the day he has a new PC on newly formatted hard drive and it just wont have it

so thanks for all the help with this but the next plan will be get him onto another game (that will work)
