Im in need of a new upgrade so I want to get the infamous i5 2500K.
With *minor OCing how long do you reckon it'll last with games for?

As a CPU for gaming its great, but it depends what video cards come out in the future and how many of them you intend to run at any one time.

Oh no, I didn't mean failure wise. I meant how long will it last until more powerful CPUs are invented and games designed for them will render the 2500K useless.

So you're saying that it would last quite a long time? GPUs wont be a problem as I can easily upgrade them without a new mobo because of architecture.

there is no "heat problem" with Ivy Bridge. If you read up it only occurs beyond 4.6Ghz normally... and even £20 air coolers can handle 4.5Ghz IB OC's.

Nice, I might look into the 3750K though. Does the "heat problem in Ivy Bridge" affect the 3750K?
Temp wise while it would be higher than i5 2500K...but i5 2500K has very low load temp to beginning with, and even if i5 3570K was 5-10C higher in temp, it is not hot enough to the point of damaging the chip (unless you overclock it to 5.0GHz with fairly high voltage).

no wonder why so many overclock it till it pops lol
?
Good chips m8, was one of the reason i went for the 2500k.
I normally keep my Cpu running stock for the first year then Oc them so it feels like a new rig, i used to have a bad problem with being a serial upgrader the Mrs was doing her nut lol

well was wondering why so many hit high temps/volts i think they enjoy that max overclock on these untill it fizzles out :)

i guess if ya hitting 4.4ghz then it will no doubt last 5 years or 10 id guess...
