Hi,

I currently have everything at stock and I want to know if my temperatures are safe or not..

When reaching 100% cpu usage (rendering) according to task manager & speedfan my cpu temp is 49-52c and the core is 45-50c ish

are these good temps to have? they seem very hot to me!

also it is like 31-35c on idle (up to 10-20%) and I dont know if I should apply my some MX-2 as I have that un opened I dont know if its worth the time, hassle & risk to lower the temps. Personally as long as it's safe I would do it (i loved building my PC) but I have some 70% isoprypl alcohol and I don't know if thats safe to clean of the old cpu thermal crap.. could it destroy the motherboard?

and also am I meant to remove the CPU when cleaning? (i really dont want to) or should I just leave it in the motherboard and clean?

also should I purchase an arctic cooling freezer 7 pro rev 2 to lower the temps more?

CPU - AMD Phenom II X4 965
Graphics Card - XFX Radeon HD 6870 DD Edition
PSU - 500w OCZ ModXStream Modula Power Supply
RAM - 8GB Corsair Vengeance (4gbx2)
Motherboard - Asus M5A78L-M/USB3
Case - Aerocool Strike-X One Midi Tower Case

63c is the max safe temp for that cpu so those temps are normal and fine. I used to have a 955 and would get those temps at stock volts folding.

What is the v-core set to at the moment. If running standard frequency then I'd recommend undervolting the v-core.

Around 55 degrees on the core is the max for stability, So you're fine with temps.
+ ambient temps are higher this time of year.

urm so what should i do? overclock from 3.4ghz to 3.8g, or 3.6?
and lower the v core?

also how am I meant to lower the v core, i understand increasing the multiplyer

you increase it in steps, say put it to 3.6 first and stress test for stability. The vcore is in the voltage options in the bios, look for 'vcore' and it should be around 1.40v, try lowering it to 1.35v and stress test for stability.

I increased to 3.6ghz, but how can I change VCORE and what should I use to stress test (and how will I know if its ok?) I heard prime 95 is good but outdated.

there is voltage but It says enter a number and then in the right hand panel it has like numbers ranging from 0.000034 to 0.0000435 or something

in about an hour or two ill try and take a pic, coz atm im uploading.

I do about 1 hour of prime 95 then 12+ hours of Folding@home SMP. You can have a cpu pass 12+ hours prime 95 then fail at folding.

CPU vcore would be a bit further down under the CPU frequency(it was in my amd mobo) or in voltage control section.

Hell no... Get something better (from someone who has that!)

Get a Noctua push / pull or something similar. Cost more, but leagues ahead of the Freezer 7!

lol come on i got all positive seeing so many reviews on that cooler.. now you tellin me its ****? haha.

what about a hyper 212? i really dont want to go above 30 mate.

Those freezer7pro and akasa 965's are phenominal for their price, but loud as anything on full load. You take the cpu out and clean it yes, it's really not difficult or dangerous just be careful and ground yourself if you are paranoid about static.

I use cotton buds and kitchen roll to clean my cpu, not ideal. Got some cpu cleaning stuff but have used carb cleaner and alcohol before, alcohol is good for this. MX-2 is good stuff, but if stock cooler I wouldn't bother.

On offer and well worth the stretch imo.

ok oh and also on 3.6ghz with vcore of 1.35v i get blue screen as soon as I start prime 95 stress testing blend mode it doesn't happen with the stock so what should I do? get a cooler or something?

also I dont care about noise really when I render videos (100%) i go downstairs, when I play games (50%) i wear headphones

as long as it can cool, i am happy - dont give two ****s about sound

also I am not buying it for £40! OcUK may seem like good prices at first, but who on earth charges 8.35 for delivery a small heatsink box!

i also dont have free delivery!
