Short break locations in the UK - Where's your favourite?

I'd of blindly said Edinburgh but you have no chance at the moment, Having gone through the hassle of finding a hotel room up there this time of year. Do visit sometime though, I find just before xmas is amazing up there if a little cold.

York you are more than likely correct. It bores me to tears that place.

Have you considered Dublin?

Bowness on Windermere is nice ,expensive accommodation and lots of tourists but still nice

There's tons of other nice places round the lake district too.

Barcelona is easily doable in such a short time

Indeed, although here in Cleator Moor there aint much to look at or do lol

Pembrokeshire. Beautiful place.

was going to recommend pembs. lived here all my life.

went down to a beach called bosherston the other day for the first time in years and felt like i was abroad.
a
was amazed how many tourists where down there. (mainly english with their cricket bats lol).

I am looking at the same, thinking the Lake Districts.

But then finding it hard to find a decent/cheap hotel that works out cheaper than going to Europe somewhere.

Anyone suggest any accomodation in the lakes?

Cottage, anywhere in the highlands or down in Wales. Honestly you can't go wrong with a few days away with no phones, no internet and no computers. Just a few books, buxom wench and lots of whiskey :D

it is comedy expensive to get to, mind.

Is it? It's been a wile since i last went outside of TT fortnight.

It used to be much cheaper when outside of that fortnight, although you do get raped by steam packet when any type of motor sport is going on.

Fowey is a very small town, it isnt the sort of place you could easily kill a 3-4 day break unless you included day trips to other places like Falmouth and Newquay, IMHO.

Montfort cottage in Bowness is relatively cheap for the area , it's a nice enough b&b , not a huge room but comfortable, modern and clean

It's not bad here in Torbay for a long weekend break, enough to do in the Bay plus you're a short drive from other places such as Dartmoor, Plymouth/Exeter.

Saying that it's not a particularly 'nice' place when compared to other suggestions, it's no city break like Edinburgh.

North Devon is nice but unless you're beachy people I'd struggle with 3 or 4 days there, had a great weekend at a BnB in Woolacombe the other week.

P.s. We were also contemplating somewhere like Barcelona as a more extravagant choice, but I fear it may be a bit ambitious with only two weeks' organising!

Hahahahhaa!!

I wouldn't spend two weeks organising if I went to the moon. I had no problems spending a week in California, landing without a single night of hotels booked.

Find a cheap European destination that you want to fly to and Wikitravel it on the way to the airport. Job done.

I enjoyed Bath for a long weekend. Go to the spa, some shopping, have a walk around and see all the various sights.

I'm going to Brighton for 3 days in a couple weeks, wife has been a few times and tells me it's amazing.
