I've just seen the trailer for the new resident evil film, which is now the 5th in the series. I enjoyed the first two films as they covered the first 3 games, which where arguably the best of the bunch without breaking into an entirely different storyline.
The third film however, extinction, I found lacking, with one daft storyline. The whole army of clones thing was one of the series biggest mistakes and even the tyrant in the third film (which is the last boss in the first game), couldn't save it.
The fourth film was the first foray into OMGHD3D nonsense and was all style, no substance. The film was also packed with massive plot holes, plus enemies from the 4th and 5th games, which just don't make any sense due to the previous events of the films. (The first 3 games where the T and G virus, which killed people and turned them into zombies, or mutated them into monsters, whilst the 4th and 5th games where parasites that took control of the host with some weird tendrils coming out of peoples mouths to spread the parasites and feed)
The 5th film supposedly takes off with wesker STILL being alive from being sat right next to that fusion bomb weapon that they use at the start of the 4th film, not to mention having his head blown off and shot at least 40 times at point blank range. All the actors from the previous films appear to make an appearance as Alice is now stuck in some VR program or something which is trying to train her and get her back on side with umbrella. The sad thing is, the film looks to be even more style over substance judging from the trailer with an ever widening gap between the source material and whats hitting the cinema screens.
If we are getting a new resident evil film, why can't they move away from the rubbish character they have at the moment and look at the storyline and characters from the 4th game, where Leon is tasked with trying to find the presidents daughter after she was kidnapped and taken to the middle of nowhere with extremely hostile natives. Theres tonnes of mystery in that game, with an actually inventive nemesis and genuinely scary moments that would translate well to the big screen.

R = does anyone else just want a fresh Res Evil film, where the current storyline and character is ditched and a fresh approach is taken? I do.
