NBC's Revolution - New Series

Not another post-apocalypse show.

First there was post-apocalypse due to zombies. Walking Dead.
Then there was post-apocalypse due to aliens. Falling Skies.

Now post-apocalypse due to power cut

Maybe next year we can have post-apocalypse due to weather (or has that been done before ;) )

I will probably watch it cos I like sci-fi, but could well stop mid season if it has the same flaws as others.

It looks like it could be interesting and on paper it is actually quite different than shows like The Walking Dead and Falling Skies and it's set 15 years after the world has gone belly up rather than days, weeks or months as is the case with the others mentioned.

That being said, I have a stinking suspicion that it will devolve into the usual family drama that plagues these sort of shows, with younger characters that are too full of hormones and angst. Also J.J Abrams being attached to the project makes me dubious.

I hope to be pleasantly surprised though, recent offering like Falling Skies and Terra Nova have been pretty meh and even The Walking Dead has had some major hiccups. It would be nice to have a show come along that knocks the ball out of the park.

First question... Why the muskets...? Last time I checked there were plenty of normal bullets around.

Jericho meets Falling skies. How about bringing back a great sci fi tv series instead like sgate, bsg, trek, firefly or something set in space which is non existent atm.

JJ is known to attach his name to things he never even walks onto the set of simply because his cronies are involved... his name has little to no value with me as a result.

It's gonna be like LOST, I feel it!

Also, a HDD outside of its shell and they've forgotten the 4 pin ATX connector on teh left side mobo next to it! What? Hollywood...

I assume that the premise that there is no high density energy production because of some altered laws of physics would affect the nitrocellulose in modern bullets....therefore they had to revert to low yield, low density energy in the form of Black Powder (Gunpowder). Although there should still be enough old revolvers and stock loaders about......

EDIT: http://www.hitfix.com/the-fien-prin...producers-talk-questions-answers-and-allegory

One of the mysteries that one critic inquired about was why the characters in "Revolution" use muskets rather than... you know... guns. Was that a science-driven issue or a plot-driven issue. The answer? Plot.
*
"Guns are possible in the world," Kripke said. "They’re confiscated because we’re living in the Monroe Republic, which is a dictatorship and they’ve taken away people’s rights to bear arms."

Apparently it is only electricity that is the issue and the muskets is a plot device and Guns (other than muskets) are illegal in the region the series is set....hmm.

Revolution is the biggest show of fall 2012 in terms of investment. It is also most likely to fail, due to "Terra Nova" syndrome
Things that potentially go against it:
- it's not sci fi, not zombies, not Lost like mystery. It's dystopian communal drama. Terra Nova without special effects. Jeremiah if Jeremiah never moved. Jeriho with better props and decorations. Dystopian dramas never had a wide audience.
- the cast is absolutely massive, it's shot in US, not Canada, it's expensive.
- There is no interest from any foreign network bar usual Canadian simultaneous broadcast. Even stuff like Hannibal, which didn't even finish casting, is sold around globe already, but no one believes in RevolutiON at the moment. The fact that it carries the same name as a family TV series that flopped last season, certainly doesn't help.
- main cast might be too young, too unknown and too bland.

Things that can help it survive.
- time slot, it's set up against Hawai-five-O and Castle. It doesn't run against any other scifi/zombie/fantasy show.

The fact that it's up against those shows could work against it and might eat into it's potential number of viewers.

Hawaii 5-0 and Castle both have pretty decent viewing figures.

Also, while they aren't in the Sci Fi Genre, they both have actors that have been in previous Sci Fi shows. How many people watch or started watching Castle because they saw Nathan Fillion in Firefly? Allot i bet.

NBC already did the first ep on their website to promote it but, that kind of suggests to me they aren't expecting much.

I dunno, doing an ep weeks early to try and get viewers, which also kind of spoils the launch somehow comes as being so scared no one will watch it the desparate campaign for viewers has already started.

its like the Avengers being released, but showing the first 20 mins of the film online 2-3 weeks early because they are terrified its about to do badly... just feels odd.

Its on the 17th-18th of this month in the states, no idea about the UK...... like thats relevant :p
