Hey guys, I need some career advice/suggestions please. I have been working for the same company since 2001, after I graduated from university. It is a small company and I am a one man IT department here, a jack of all trade dealing with all things IT, audio visual and telephony matters.
I am stuck in a bit of a rut here now, with no chance of any promotion, big pay rises or career progression. I should have really left the company many years ago and moved on from here. I am finding it hard to get jobs elsewhere as many companies seem to want people who have worked in larger firms.
What kind of things could I do to make myself more employable? I just have my degree in computer science and the 11 years of work experience. The kinds of roles I am looking for are system administrator and IT manager roles.
Thanks in advance guys.

Keep checking the relevant job sites -- Reed, CWJobs etc. You'll find something eventually considering your experience. Maybe get your CV looked over professionally, too?

I'd find it more likely that you could make the step to 2nd/3rd line admin within a medium-to-large company than straight into IT Management if your only experience so far really is as a one man band in a smaller firm.

Unlikely you'll jump into management without a lot of luck. Start looking at virtualisation, chances are you can use it in your current company anyway and it's great to have on your CV.
