Pretty much everything now points to us being on the brink of getting him, so I'm just waiting for Man City to come in, give Arsenal £30m and pay him £300,000 a week, as well as throwing in a free mansion and a Veyron.

From Fergies comments tonight Arsenal (understandably) are trying to sell to everyone but us, I suspect this one will go the distance and be a final 5 minutes of the window signing if we pull it off.

One things for certain though, unless they've been developments that Fergies unaware of RVP's still definitely leaving Arsenal which will hopefully put an end to all the Arsenal supporters on here keep talking like he might be staying :p

i just can't see RVP at united, i just can't see how it would work with rooney? unless (and i've said this before) ferguson wants to push rooney into a deeper role and progress on his tracking back duties with RVP being the sole target man?

We play two strikers, almost always... it's not hard to figure out how it would work.

Berbatov would leave, and Welbeck/Hernandez would rotate. I don't know how he wants to use Kagawa.

That's if it happens, I'll be very surprised if it does. It has to happen quickly, or Man City will get him, simple as that. Unless he absolutely doesn't want to go there.

I'd rather have Llorente tbh, younger and offers us something really different (so when we have no possession we can hoof it at someone who can actually win it :p)

Arsenal captain Robin van Persie did not have faith he could shine as a lone striker when first handed the role by manager Arsene Wenger.
Van Persie was elevated to the focal point of the Gunners' attack following the sale of Emmanuel Adebayor to Manchester City in 2009. Before that point, he had been happy to operate as a second striker, drifting into the lines between midfield and attack.
However, Van Persie has emerged as one of the most lethal goalscorers in Europe, and is reportedly attracting interest from both Barcelona and Manchester City, with his contract due to expire in 2013.
"I was hoping to play as a second striker," Van Persie said. "I never thought I would end up as a main striker. We only tried it when Adebayor went. The boss didn't buy anyone else - he was convinced I could do it, but I wasn't.
"In my first five or six games I was making assists but I didn't score and I thought, 'I am a main striker now, I need to score.' When I scored my first goal I then scored seven in seven, with seven assists."

i'm not saying it wouldn't work but the lone striker role seems to be how he is most effective. my thinking is ferguson would progress rooney's deeper game, kind of what RVP was doing before adebayor left.

All last season Rooney played the number 10 role with Welbeck or Hernandez in front of him, it would be no different if RVP signed, only thing that would happen is it would stunt the development of the two aforementioned strikers already at the club (but given RVP's fitness record I doubt it would stunt it that much :p)

I thought Swansea has some sort of deal on letting Rodgers go to Liverpool that he couldn't poach all the good players for 12 months (I assume massive fee's bypass this)

oops that's an hour behind from not pressing refresh...

Well Stoke are signing Geoff Cameron from Huston after the work permit cleared. Could be interesting, no idea if he's any good...

Yep no 21 year old strikers have ever improved have they.....
Who are we talking about here, Welbeck or every other striker at the age of 21?

I think it's a safe bet to say he won't ever be significantly better than he is now, love to be proved wrong of course.

That seemingly doesn't apply if there is a release clause involved.

Ahhh, I wasn't sure which way round it would be. These release clauses the press have been mentioning on the odd player this summer seem to have been utter nonsense. Very much doubt Allen has one in the same way I don't think Demba Ba had one... (or the one the media touted anyway).

Seems a bit like the papers have been fishing for a story and are hoping the figures are close enough.

Swansea's chairman as good as confirmed Allen's release clause in a statement the other week. He complained about details of Allen's contract being leaked to the press.

Regarding the agreement between Rodgers and Swansea, there's always doubts over how enforceable these type of agreements are.

I don't think the fact that Allen has a release clause changed anything regarding this agreement. I think it's more a case of Allen wants to join us and Swansea (Laudrup as good as said this) realising that there's little point keeping an unhappy player

Ah fair enough, after the Carroll to west ham stuff iv been a bit sceptical of the press this summer, they (as one massive group) really have dropped the ball on second guessing football wrong (more so than usual).

Allen for 15m would be good for Swansea, not sure how good he is compared to his FM rating though (in game he's quality so in real life it's not usually quite the case)

Agger was at training today with YNWA written on his fingers. I guess he isn't joining us!

We do need to bring in a backup CB however. Savic looks to be going out on loan and Kolo will be leaving also.

W.Bremen are looking at RSC. I pray they take him.

Spurs want to come back in for Adebayor as well. Levy knows he wont get anyone better for cheaper. Just take the hit for the upfront wages and carry on ffs.
