Face lift A3 or MK6?

The A3 looks nicer but is an inferior package. I wouldn't choose another one when this lease expires.

VW comprehensive warranty has cost us £207 for this year for our Mk6 160 TSI, which has just started its 4th year. That's pretty cheap really. Our DSG box broke but apart from that tiny fault ;) it's been perfect. I'd say a Mk6 160 would be a good bet but buy the warranty. It covers chargers.

Thats more than pretty cheap - that's absolutely astonishingly good value. What are the details of the cover? Is that comprehensive with no excess? Who administers the scheme?

Looks like the same as the BMW scheme then - same people. Thats stunning value. Makes you wonder why anyone is dumb enough not to take it out. All the hassle-free experience of a brand new car but.. only a 3+ year old one.

Maybe it's partly because we didn't get roadside cover (already AA members)? Not sure how much that would account for.

Thanks for the input guys, the face lift A3 with day running lights is simply stunning in the 3 door form, however it's pre pre generation inside as everyone has stated.

Buying a used 2-3 year old VW is the extended warranty applicable?

I would like the 1.4 TSI 160 but all the reported issues put me off, my friend has his 18 month old TSI engine replaced, long term VW forum members are having problems with one member having had his TSI in the garage 6 times within two years...

Again any other German hatch recommendations?

The 2.0 TSI is more reliable, for an 09 later engine. The earlier ones had issues too, not to the scale of the 1.4 TSI though.

Nice price!

How many years can you extend the warranty for? Or is it up to a maximum of 100000 miles irrespective of age (to a point I presume)?

Had a quick skim of the policy booklet. Seems to be a limit of up to 100k miles at the start of the policy, but over 60k miles you move onto a higher price tier I think. There are probably loads of sub-tiers between that too.

Thanks :) I need to extend my warranty in March 2013, so it's good to have an idea of what to expect.

I have decided to keep the 06 Jetta for another year, my logic is the Golf MK7 will be released in March and MK6 Golf's will be better value and I will generally get more bang for the cash.

Jetta is only 102k and hopefully nothing major will go wrong between now and then.

Mileage has actually been 20k in 2.5 years...

Thanks for the advice everyone.
