Opinions on asus Sabretooth Z77 over my P8Z77V-Pro?

I'd say go for the Sabertooth.
Just by doing some quick comparisons on the Asus site, the Sabertooth has more features. The sabertooth will also push further overclocks. Plus, it has a 5 Year Warranty and looks gorgeous.
This is just my opinion though, make sure you get others ;)

Isnt that full cover heatsink a bit of a gimmick? with reduced airflow to important parts and higher temps.

At least thats what I read.

Aha , didnt realise that it was only 48 hrs old.

Depends on the reason for the sabertooth , if its just because of the sound then i would buy a dedicated sound card.

IMO if you're running an air cooler then that full-cover gimmick will be just that, and be a total gimmick. There have been plenty of tests to demonstrate the beneficial aspects of air coolers moving air across the motherboard and providing this accidental secondary cooling function. Since then some coolers have taken this further by design, such as the Prolimatech Genesis and many others.

However, if you're going to be running a custom loop or even one of the sealed watercooling solutions I can see that it would actually be beneficial as there can be little or no air movement around motherboard components.

So if you're running air I wouldn't bother, but with watercooling I'd say it would be an asset worth having.

With the Sabertooth Z77 we provide two small fans which when used in conjunction with the Thermal Armour help push cool air DIRECTLY onto critical components that usually get hot in normal chassis conditions (a decent side-panel fan would also do the job well). Also, because the Z77 Sabertooth has extra ventilation holes in the PCB, some of the air passes through them (thanks to the airflow being forced down) which then provides cooling for the back of the motherboard PCB.

Further to that, benchmarks show that even when not using these fans the motherboard does remain at a cooler temperature using Thermal Armour compared to not using it (it is removable).
