Just passed mod 2 & now have my full cat A licence!! :D

Now to get rid of my CBF125 and get something big! Will hopefully sell/part ex it for a fair bit, it's only done 5k. Looks like I could get about £1500 for it private sale? Anyone have any idea how much I might get for it part ex?

Kawasaki ER-6
Triumph Speed Triple
Suzuki SV650

you would get less if you part exchanged it than you would if sold privately,how much idk,they would go off list prices

the er6 is a nice smart machine,but im a kawasaki fanboy

Main reason for the ER-6 is I learnt on an oldish ER-5 and really enjoyed it. My instructor used their newer ER-6 & I loved it! :)

I'm not too worried about getting a little less for trade in as it saves a lot of hassle rather than selling it privately, but it it's the difference between e.g. £1000 or £1500 then I'll definitely try sell private.
 
it depends whats the best option,if you trade it in they will try and profit from you,if you have the patients to advertise it esp with the current sunny weather youll stand to make more

but like i said depends how much they offer you,ring up for insurance quotes aswell on the er-6 or whatever bike you go for before you buy the bike itself,just find out the year of the bike for the quote ect

have you looked at the zx6r's?? the 98-2000 models i can recommend cos i own one,depends on insurance but older usually=cheaper
 
Hmm, too many amazingly nice bikes to choose from! :eek:. I have always liked the ZX6R, but not sure if it'll be a bit too sporty? The bike I do eventually get will likely be used every day for getting to work.

I'm 21, 1 year ncb on my 125 and have had my car licence for about 4 years now.

Will definitely go for some test rides if I can. I'm open to all/most bikes at the moment that are going to be fun, suitable for getting to work & not too much on insurance.

Ide also add Kawasaki ZZR600 to the list, good low mileage ZZR6's can be picked up quite cheaply without breaking the bank, nice, solid choice for a first "big bike".
 
there comfy compared to newer zx6's,i rode mine to work n back and sunday runs no trouble,and it would do the clock so plenty fast enough,170mph

its worth considering and enquiring about insurance,id be suprised if it was higher than a newish er6,choose the one you like best,just thought id mention the zx6
 
Speed Triple... out fo that list. My mate bought a 2009 ER6F and loves it... but I'd go the Triple every time.

The Speed Triple is a 1 liter 133bhp hooligans wheelie machine, did you mean the Street Triple? (which is a 675cc wheelie machine). In either case it will be a far more potent machine than the other bikes you have listed.

Yeah I meant the 675cc, not the 1l R model. Didn't realise the 675 was that much more potent than the others!

I suspect the insurance will be considerably more even for an older ZX6R than any of the bikes listed, especially for a relatively new rider. I've got an SV650S and looking at quotes for ZX6 of the same age (2002) is about 2 and a half times as much.

could be right,i know how ridiculous insurance prices are,for a first time bike out of the original list id say the er6 or the hornet are good choice,i like the sv650 too

Out of your list I'd pick the Hornet.

Also there is a lad on here looking for a good 125 so hopefully you two will get together. :)
 
Street triple every time, it's basically won every bike mag feature in it's class since coming out. It'll get under your skin and make you want to ride more an more :D

Maybe the ER6 if you're after a good MPG commuter or the SV650 if your on a tight budget. The hornet is good but the Street beats it everywhere and it's British :p

Honda Hornet
Good all round, low power band for commuting and high power band for weekend/evening fun, proven reliability and plenty of cheap parts.

Kawasaki ER-6
another good all round bike, a lot easier on a new rider in and out of the twisties and quite fun to ride straight off. Plenty of custom parts available after the new super twin category was introduced at the TT. Not heard a bad thing about these.

Triumph Speed Triple
If I had a the budget for one when I brought my hornet, they'd most likely be one in my garage instead of a hornet right now :)

Took one out for the recent triumph day and the noise and feel is kinda intoxicating, I had to give it back though :(

Suzuki SV650
The practical choice. It's a good cheap twin with a great engine, not as good as the er6 imo but was fun in the twisties and being a twin it's very easy to ride.
