Virgin Media Discussion Thread

I thought that everybody who went to 100 now ended up with 100/5? and the only people with 100/10 where on the package before they started upgrading everybody?

I was on 50 mbit our exchange got upgraded to 100mbit last week for free.
I was on 100/5 the correct speed.

Now im on this:

I had to jump through hoops... speak to 2 UK staff and 3 Indian staff to get the upload.
BTW: The usual reply is "Sir, only the download is increased in the speed doubling program".

So you just phoned them up and kept at them?

Anyone else getting low speed results in speed tests lately. Usually i get good results 90% of the time but very few now show my full speed and a lot are showing 30mb or lower (im on 60mb).

Either the test result servers are very overloaded or my routing to them is really bad atm.

Yup my speeds on speedtest.net are way lower than normal - newsgroups comfirms all is well :D

Yep, I've been noticing that as well. But I'm on wireless, so I never know if that is the cause or not. If I want to be sure I plug into the router temporarily. But everything seems fine with my connection in real world use, so I ignore what speedtest tells me.

Damn. Asked them to double my speed yesterday because the upgrade has been put back in my area and now my connection is all over the place.

Only went from 10mb to 20mb. My connection was rock solid before on 10mb and now I don't even get that.

Anyone else in the Uddingston area had crappy speeds lately?

Just received my superhub for the free speed upgrade.
Went from 20mb to 60mb or in real terms..
Newsgroup downloading from 2.2mb/sec to 7.5mb/sec
2gb downloaded in under 4 mins! :)
Well done virgin.

Shame im moving home within the next month

Any ideas how to get best speed on virgin media newsgroup also why is it when i enabled ssl and use port 443 as i heard most do, it never connects but if i take ssl off and use port 119 it works tho slowly.

SSL only works on an SSL enabled server. If you can connect without SSL then its not SSL enabled i guess

Well im trying to use the free newsgroups for virgin media and i hear ppl use ssl by using port 443, but newsleecher is only working when i use port 119 and no ssl :(

Can anyone tell me which of the Virgin Modems (before the craphub) supported 60meg download speed. Im getting hacked off with the appalling quality of the wireless signal the SuperHub puts out, the enginner took my old cable modem with him when he installed the superhub, im think of contacting Virgin and asking for my old modem back and just using that in conjunction with a EDIMAX EW-7228APn wireless route.

The EDIMAX i have downstairs wipes the floor with the SuperHub. I dont want to use the superhub in modem mode as the thing is massive and produces enough heat and light that i dont need the heating or lights on in the room when the things on (a slight exaggeration i know). So would just like the compact modem back i had before, i seen a few Virgin modems on ebay but not sure if they have the capacity for my 60meg download package?

The only modem that will support anything above 20, is the VMNG300 which virgin are allowing on 100 however you will have to get it from virgin because if you buy one on ebay it will not work.

Can you not get Virgin to activate it then?. Would Virgin even take the superhub back and replace it with the VMNG300 modem??

No virgin will not activate a modem that they have not supplied you with directly, people have managed to get their superhub swapped out for a vmng300 before and in most cases that was done via emailing the ceo office [email protected]
