Hello, saw another A4 Estate today, this time it had Nav, the right trim, cruise control, s line, every option that I want except parking sensors

So, first question can parking sensors be added? easily?

Also, heres a picture of the service history.. does this look right, there seems to be a big gap between 56k and 94k?

The car was won at an auction by the guy who is selling it, does that sound ok?

I also checked the VIN number inside the bonnet against the VIN on the computer and it matched that of the DVLA ownership thing

The car was owned by a company before it was auctioned off, the company was called Lombard Vehicle Mangement

http://www.lombard.co.uk/

It looks like they do vehicle finance, does that mean that the car could have been leased out to any number of drivers during its time or was it used as a company vehicle? should this put me off?

Basically, this is the only audi in the whole of the UK that has all the options I want, milage is currently 104k

they are asking £11,990 and the spec is as follows:
09 plate
A4 Avant S Line
143BHP, 2.0 TDI
Cruise Control
NAV
LED lights
Xenon
Start/Stop system
Alacantra Seats
104k miles

anyone got any thoughts on all of this?

Adding parking sensors is pretty simple, don't get duped into installing the retrofit kit, as it's not a proper Audi PDC, it's a cruddy kit that is re-packaged and doesn't integrate with the MMI.

For rear only, you'll need the harness, 4 sensors, 4 sensor mounts for the bumper (as well as a 38mm hole saw and some epoxy), a buzzer/speaker, and a parking sensor module. You then need someone with a vag-com cable to enable it all for you.

With regard to the control module, the part number revision (A, B, C... K, L, M) denotes what it can do. Early modules (both 4 and 8 sensor variants) didn't support graphical output or linking to a reversing camera. Later revisions do. I'll dig out the comprehensive list when I find it.

I added PDC to my A6 (and have the kit to install the front 4, but haven't got around to it yet).

Are you really sure that this is the only Audi with those options (mileage aside :P )? They're not exactly uncommon for that age, maybe only the seat finish being more difficult to find.

Ha, just looked at the document, Macclesfield Audi, that's my local dealer and where mine goes.

To me that looks like it's missed a service (even on longlife servicing, 37,800 miles is far too large a gap between services).

What's the reg, I'll see if I can dig anything out from the dealer about it (I know a few people at the dealership, and they owe me a favour).

On the face of it though, I'm not so sure it would be the car I'd choose if the servicing turns out to be missing.

thanks and what do you think about buying this car from this guy/auction/company for that pice?

You'd have to be bonkers to spend £12k on a 104k mile Audi with such crap service history.

Your options list isn't exactly huge so I find it hard to beleive its the only one in the country with the options you want. I suspect its the only one with the options you want in your budget - and this is because frankly your budget isn't big enough to buy what you want.

Im looking for one in either silver or blue
Important
2009 shape
NAV
Cruise Control
S Line
Lumbar Support
Adjustable depth seats
143BHP 2l Diesel, dont care about manual/auto

Nice to have
LEDs

Im going to be driving 50 miles a day, so not massive amounts but my ford focus is too uncomfortable at the moment, my back and legs kill me

I'd like to spend £12k

Thats your problem. £12k and you want a high spec 2009 2.0 TDI S-Line version of the current shape A4?

Forget it - it's not going to happen without you needing to get something iffy like this one with crap service history.

Your budget simply isn't sufficient for what you want.

Well it's not the spec you said you wanted and its a year older for a start.

Do you have a sufficient amount of spare cash to maintain a 6 figure mileage Audi? You need to be really careful here, your tastes seem to exceed your budget pushing you into a mileage bracket where you'll need more money to keep it going and be unable to get a warranty, therefore all the repair bills are up to you to fund.

the reason for the "09 shape" is beause I want the LCD screen to be located in the new position and have the new MMI that comes with it, if its on a 08 plate I dont mind

that A6 seems good value, I presume the A6 is just bigger?

As for the A4 I am after, what budget would you recommend then?

I speak from experience when I say that you'll regret buying from the bottom of the pile just because it seems like a bargain. If you're financing, an extra couple of k is going to make negligible difference. If you're buying outright, just spend a couple more months saving. Get something with an impeccable service record, the right spec and a few less miles.

I agree with this, you get what you pay for and if your cheap you end up paying twice.

As I've said time and time again, if you don't mind how the A6 looks, get an A6, you'll easily get one in budget and they all have MMI of some type (not all have NAV, but at least it's not too hard to add it, as the console buttons for it are there).

whats the difference between A4 and A6 then? ive test drove A4's and a friend has one so Im familiar with them, not sure ive even seen an A6 before

obviously the A6 is bigger, but does it have all the other goodies like alcanta seats, lumbar support, MMI, Nav and all that

why is the a6 sometimes cheaper second hand if its more to buy new?

my initial reservations about the a6 is the size, I never wanted something as large

You'll likely find that leather is the most common interior material on the A6. Alcantara was an option (or part alcantara), but most have leather, even non S-Lines. Electric lumbar support is standard on the S-Line, MMI is standard across the A6 (although be sure that it has MMI high with the large colour display rather than MMI basic with the red/black smaller display, although for your budget, they should all be MMI high). Nav is an option on MMI basic and High, obviously it's better on High, but if you don't have it it's possible to retrofit assuming you don't have an MMI center console with 4 buttons rather than 8 (they started to cost cut so removed buttons for features the car didn't have).

As for the price, the larger the car, seemingly the less desirable they are (or at least less people want them for fear of them being more expensive to run, or indeed simply don't look at buying them because they assume they will cost too much to buy), it's the same across most brands. Look for example at the price of a BMW 7-Series against the cost of a similar age/mileage 5-series (or even the 5-series against the 3-series).

A8s represent even bigger value than the A6, but you can't get an estate A8, saloon only.

I was driving a Focus mk1 1.6 with over 100k same distance a day then 150 miles on a Friday and Monday morning. Never found it uncomfortable. When you say kill you as I suppose 25 miles each way circa 45 minutes?
