More questions: Audi Purchase

I was driving a Focus mk1 1.6 with over 100k same distance a day then 150 miles on a Friday and Monday morning. Never found it uncomfortable. When you say kill you as I suppose 25 miles each way circa 45 minutes?

45mins each way yeah

I think Im too tall for the car, even at the most further back setting I feel like should be another foot away from the pedals as my legs are contantly bent as an uncomfortable angle. My left knee and lower back really hurt, I have tried those add-on lombar support things but they move around and **** me off

When I drove the A4 I found that was enough room for somone taller than me, I didnt have to use the most furtherback setting. I also found the seats on the s-line supported my back really well, by the end of the week I simply cant take it anymore

cruise control would really help, but Im not willing to spend money on this focus even if I can easily add it.. the misses will need her own car soon so I was thinking of her having the focus and I will get myself something else

the road noise also drives me nuts

Would one of the Skoda/Seat equivalents be be a more sensible choice if the budget is looking stretched?

There isn't one. The Exeo is the previous generation A4 platform with no MMI equivalent, and the Skoda range is either A3/Golf platform (Octavia), or larger than the A4 (Superb).

Im "not allowed to buy a saloon shaped car" lol
so has to be estate; I also like the storage options available in the estate, I can easily carry around a bunch of rack mount servers to a customer, carry a dog, move house.. I really like estates

every estate I have seen is fugly except Audi

unless you are aware of an estate that looks decent

If I cant make the audi happen then I might consider getting a saloon in which case yeah theres a lot more options

what about those things where you lease a car for 3 years? are they worthwhile for someone commuting to work on a daily basis?

Lease hire? There's loads of companies doing it, VW Finance do it direct and its where most of these Audis will be coming to Auction from. I've had an ex-Leaseplan 58-plate A4 Avant since December and luckily its one that's been looked after. You take your chances though as if its some sods company motor its likely been abused.

it seems some companies do second hand lease hire, which should make the monthly costs cheaper since the car will be around 3 years old and been through its most severe depreciation already ?

But then you still need to pay a huge whack at the end to keep the car?

Are you really sure this is a good idea - your posts give of all the wrong signs, it seems like you are really stretching yourself to get into a second hand Audi, this is never a good idea. If you want to buy a used car like this you should always make sure you've not stretched yourself financially and that you've got a useful fund left over. It might have a 2 litre diesel engine but that doesnt mean you should expect Fiesta running costs.

Despite being based on the smaller platform the Octavia is like the tardis

Code:
			[B]A4 A6 Octavia Superb[/B]
[B]Seats down	[/B]	1430 1660 1655 1865
[B]Seats up[/B] 490 565 605 633
(Litres of capacity from Autotrader)

Fox is right, if you scrimp on the budget you risk having to fork it over eventually in repair costs anyway.

Thats just the boot though and surely just means they prioritised luggage space over interior space.
Yup, looks like rear legroom has been reduced in the Octavia vs the A4

Octavia

A4

Code:
		Front Rear
Octavia 1040 750
A4 1049 894

15cm is a significant amount. I guess it depends on your priorities - load carrying or carrying 4 adults?

Despite not being the latest in tech or design, for someone looking for quality on a budget, something like this looks cracking value IMO.

As has been demonstrated, if all the OPs requirements are met, the car is out of budget. A comrpomise has to be made somewhere.

If you're really bothered, I'm sure a few hundred quid would get you a decent, modern double din headunit.

I just think that interior looks so horribly dated. Even compared to something like a passat estate. :o

It does but these Exeo's are a bargain for the price they can be had for. Solid build quality and the same current VAG engines used in other cars. I'm almost tempted to get one myself if I can find a TSI in the right spec but 9/10 Exeo's seem to be Diesel :(
