not sure
Hi all went to game todoay and purchased saints row the third pre owned

IO said this code is it just for extras they said yes I said its not for online play they said no.

I said well if its been used can I bring it back they said no.

So they doubled checked with another guy to make sure it was only for extras and he said yes online play is fine with out the code

I am not happy I have it on PS3 BTW and it seems I need the code and on the PSN store its £7 :O.

Would I be in my rights to go there and speak ti the two guys and tell them they was wrong and demand a refund OR better still put the difference to a new version?

You can ask for a refund, the pass is always for online modes. It's quite a common occurrence now, it's developers getting their fees from second hand games, which would otherwise decimate the industry. A necessary evil in my view.

Ok but as I did not know about this pass and hence I asked and was still wrongly advised surely they aint got a leg to stand on even more so if I include trading std`s not that I can see it going that far plus I want to put the diff to a new copy so there for they make more really.

P.S

what if ya format yo PS3 then and reuse the code? ya have to purchase a new one if so that sucks

Generally don't buy second hand games as it is, and even less now if I want the online. I find I can usually get the game cheaper or not much more than the second hand price of stores anyway if looking online or around a little.

That said, on your specific question especially if you asked them or it suggested on box (or even in my opinion didnt clearly state it didnt have online capability) that it had online capability then they've missold you and it's not as advertised and you have a statutory right to a refund (note replacement would be irrelevant because another used copy is likely going to have the same issue).

Should asked for it in writing about the code, an the staff members name.
They will more than likely refuse it back but i hope you get it sorted out.

Hi thanks all.

I know the bloke who served me I have been going to this GAME store for 10 plus years lol so I know the bloke well.

If they refuse I will take it further its very poor service on there behalf because they told me the code was for extra content and he said its not for online play if he said the code may be for online play I would have got a new copy there and then.

Now its going to cost me extra to get back into town and mess about.

EDIT

Yeah me mate looked at me statury rights he said you could get them all so for it not being fit for sale as I did say it was for MP I got the game for.

So the product was sold missleaded and unfit for sale?

yeah well there is that tbh.

But I am hoping the bloke I have known for years at least admits his fault.

We will see when I can get back down there LOL

You can play the game online fine and get the Platinum without an online pass. I know because I bought it used and got the Platinum. The code was only for a PSN copy of Saints Row 2 and some costumes from what I remember.

Yes but for what was a preowned game and probably £10-20 quid is it really worth them having a full blown 'converstation' in store that may put off other customers, especially if they know they're in the wrong.

Also I wonder whether you could still stand on the defence of it wasn't clearly indicated on the packaging so you expected it to be the same as the new game in terms of content. Probably be a bit harder to argue that but still I wouldn't expect people to know what had online passes and didn't, so it would in my view still be covered.

Hi all well i took it back got a refund no issues.

Yeah there is no warning on the box just a sticker to ask about code redemptions so I did and was told it was for extra content only nothing else.

Any ways I got a new copy now so should be good to go.

P.S

If ya look on the manual it does say use this code for online play so yeah deffo needs a code to activate online gaming.

Thanks :)

I think it helped that I have known him for many many years...well I say know only VIA GAME.

Ah well just a warning to others do not purchase second hand if ya intend to play online as ya taking a gamlbe

The product wasn't unfit for sale, however it was miss-sold as the people who served you lied either purposefully or because they actually had no idea.

Either way you are entitled to a refund. If you hadn't asked and they hadn't answered it would be another story, but seeing as you asked a specific question and received a specific answer then there really is no doubt.

say wha?

That we still have an industry and that second hand games have been traded since day dot on consoles, im not sure i understand the 'decimated' hyperbole.

*facepalm*

No, no it's not at all necessary. It's greedy developers being unsurprisingly greedy.
