Muse - The 2nd Law: Unsustainable (Dubstep) Your thoughts?

2nd law states entropy always increases in a closed system. Everything tends to chaos and disorder. Universe dies heat death.

Obviously (sarcasm) this is analogical to the current crisis facing our global finite energy sources. And that involves heat and energy too. And probably human chaos and disorder.

Marrying these up and showing science-y graphics combined with images of oil rigs makes it look like Muse are being profound when in fact they're being boring. Throw in some bad dubstep noises probably made on guitar. At least do it properly and stop trying to be ironic by mocking musical trends. Pretention beyond belief.

Hey I enjoyed the orchestral intro though.

I know the Laws of Thermodynamics well, but didn't know what the hell it had to do with the **** music :p

How have a good, honest homegrown band like Muse fallen so far? It really is a sign of the times that the powers that be of the pop industry are so short of talent that they are happy to turn dross like this out.

I'm looking forward to seeing them live, but I don't even think I'll be bothered to re-listen to this. It's too bombastic, it's just... annoying.

Finally a muse track that is good. To date they have just been pretentious crap.

I'm a Muse fan, not massive mind but seen them a couple of times. And that is godawful.

They've always been heavy on the synths but that sounds like something off a film trailer rather than a song.

Actually, this might be genius.
Muse are clearly referring to themselves - they simply cannot sustain (hence 'unsustainable', geddit?) the previous quality of their musical output. Like the faux reporter says, they are fundamental limits to human innovation and technological advancement. Also, that energy will become more dispersed and useless. This is basically Muse not so subtly admitting they have lost focus and drive.
Hey, I quite like this now.

I'll probably get shot but from a non-Muse-fan standpoint I actually think Supermassive Blackhole is their best song.

I await die hard fans to tell me how wrong I am :p

The singer in muse sounds so downy, makes you feel like you should be slitting your wrists to enjoy the music.

I quite like Supermassive Blackhole too, it's got a groovy industrial rock vibe to it.

Unsustainable, however, is the definition of a filler track. I expect it as a jam they'll play in between their decent stuff live.

What utter twaddle. I regard myself as a Muse fan. I have seen them 6 times live.

That was just noise. Utter pretentious nonsense. Hopefully there will still be a few gems on their new album.

If the dubstep was just an intro, fine. It seems to be the main theme. The verses are read out by a reporter, the dubstep is the chorus and a Matt Bellamy wail is the crescendo. Twaddle

I'm sure it's just the album intro, don't panic!

I'm one of those who much prefers the Muse of old, my opinion is probably quite biased but I haven't enjoyed their newer stuff so much, to me it sounds too "pop" like.

What really disappointed me was that I've seen them live a number of times and watching them at reading last year it was sad to see how many backing tracks they use now. I remember in the early days where they'd go to the effort of making the funky noises and tunes themselves, it's almost as if they have gotten lazy these days. Don't get me wrong it was an amazing show and their new tunes actually went down really well but they seem to have just lost that magic for me

Same here, to me their last amazing albums are Origin of Symmetry/Hullaballoo. Every one of their songs on those albums I can listen to an infinite number of times and still get completley lost in them.
Absolution has some great songs on it but overall isn't nearly as impressive - everything else after that I really tried to like, but honestly it's just ****e.

Ive liked all of Muse's albums, every now and again they make a terrible song, Im hoping this is one of them, as that is what it is....terrible.
