Because it has been replaced by the Insignia.
ah.. and is the 5 door hatchback going to have more leg room (for the driver) than an 04 Ford Focus?
There seems to be a lot a hate for the A3
There's a legitimate reason for that though, they're very boring to drive and average to look at
I recall the company car (2010 Sportback) I would drive up and down the Midlands....

I'd imagine so. The Insignia is a bigger car than the Focus. If you were to compare a Vauxhall brand to the Focus then you should be looking at the Vauxhall Astra, which directly competes with the Focus.
The Insignia directly competes with the Ford Mondeo.
The only way to tell which car has more leg room is to sit in them.
If you want a CAT D then I guess it is fine...
