Hello overclcokers peeps!

So basically i am running this at the moment:

AMD Phenom 850 3.3GHz Quad Core Processor
8GB 1333Mhz DDR3 RAM
1TB Hard Drive Storage Space
ATI Radeon HD 6950 2GB Graphics Card
High End Gigabyte 870A-USB3L Motherboard

I am actually studying Games Design at University at the moment so i will need a a lot more of a beastly computer.

Being poor my budget is £1000. Obviously i would love ot have a SLI 690, 3930k beast machine but thats not going to happen.

What are you opinions on 8150 bulldozer? will save me money and allow me to get 7970..

Help please internetz :P
 
Can you remove the competitor link please.

If the PSU is a no-name el-cheapo then its best to get one thats well reviewed and of a known quality.

So for £1000 do you want to start again (keeping the drives) and adding a SSD? or keep the case?

And i basically want to start again. When someone bought me this computer they didnt know much about computers so they bought a pre made one. So all the components probably arent that good. So it will be easier for me to sell this and completely start again (Minus the Hard drive as that has my work on it)

That is actually a very nice set up.. Basically what i was looking for.. Although quick question.. I think i will need i7 or something roughly the same on the AMD side. Which is why i asked about the bulldozer. Would the bulldozer be better than that i5?

Regarding i7 Vs i5 if it is purely for gaming (playing games) then there is no benefit for having hyperthreading as currently games don't take advantage. If part of your course is doing 3d modelling type stuff then those programs might utilise hyperthreading in which case it might be worth it. Bare in mind the i5 is no slouch at such tasks just not quite as good as the i7.

Regarding the i5 Vs Bulldozer - simply put, no. :D

And as per stulid's spec you could reconfigure the spec around to get an i7 in there.

So basically AMd is Rubbish? :P and yes, a lot of 3D modelling and video rendering and running Game engines and photoshop and everything at the same time.. :)

Depending on what i sell my computer for (BTW, how much would that be worth roughly now? i know computer parts depreciate very fast) i will be able to go plus £100 maybe.

And also can someone give me a very quick lesson in the differences between ivybridge.. sandybride.. and the random numbers after the i7 bit? :P

Then I'd go for a spec like Stulid's then. Nvidia GPUs are better for those tasks (some of them) and it has an i7 there. He specced a storage drive also so you could take that out and make it within budget.
