Hi all

I took my car (ford focus 2008) to a ford dealer for its service and mot. I was informed that the front tyres were near the legal limit so had them replace them. I noticed once I got the car back that when driving above 60mph, the steering wheel was osscilating. This osscilation became more pronouced as I hit 70, and much worse at 80.

I took it back to the garage, and they said that the wheels were unbalanced, and sorted this for free. However having just driving the car on a motorway, I find I have the exact same issue. I'll be booking it again at the garage, but was wondering if the good people of OcUK motors have any idea what could be causing this?

I also get this on my Peugeot 407. It's fine up to 70. But anything over that it start to shudder like yours.

It's also just had an MOT and full service yet still have this problem.

Take it to a Different Garage or Tire and Exhaust specialist (not Kwik Fit!!) and get them to check and re-balance the wheels. Then take the Bill to the Original garage and get them to pay you back!!

I did this once when I had my Tyres changed at the best place I could find (at the time), They unfortunately 'Statically' balanced the tyres (which is what you apparently do for Truck Tyres, which was their primary business) rather than 'Rotational' balancing, Not knowing this I got them to re-balance the wheels (for free) but the problem still persisted!!.

I then took my car to Bell Tyres here in Swindon (one of the best in the area) got them re-balanced (all 4 were well off!) and took the bill back to the first place, after a bit of an argument I got a re-fund!! :D

I can confirm that there is no banging, so probably just not balanced them correctly, again...
I've been back to tyre fitters numerous times to have them rebalanced. If you're lucky, they get there eventually :)

I'd rather you say that you can confirm that the nuts are tight because you've checked them if I'm honest :p
