Wheeler Dealers New Series

As I was watching it I was imagining Fox being apoplectic with rage seeing the 3 different brands of ditch finders (2 below legal tread limit) on the best car ever made.

I love wheeler dealers despite it's faults. The intention is to show how you can get a better car for your money, but they often leave stuff out such as new tyres (as demonstrated by the M5 episode).

It combines a lot of basic mechanics, simple ways to fix some items that save money, and also advice on what a garage might charge, but there are some that are often cheated on for the sake of TV. Far better watch than some of the other carp that's on at 9.00pm on a Tueday night :D

If they included everything they did then it would probably be a long programme and get quite boring at points. :)

"I was looking around and saw that this bolt was a bit rusty, so I've changed it just to be safe."

"I noticed that the mats were a bit messy so I've hoovered them."

I think they condense all that into Mike saying ''chuck a bucket of water over it''

When you see the over processed shots at the end of the finished product I feel a bit disappointed as they could have spent a couple hours polishing and detailing what they haven't needed to replace or paint. There's still obvious flaws that could be easily tidied up. But maybe that's my OCD kicking in when it comes to things like this.

That said, this latest episode had me lusting over a cheap tatty M5 to run until I'm bankrupt. Not bothered about how tatty it is, just so long as it was sound mechanically it could be a ton of fun. Dangerous, very dangerous.

i think anyone who bought a cheap M5 would need to be awarded a medal.

to do the job right, or even close to what im doing with my cheap M3 would cost sooooo much money just for the mechanical bits to refresh the suspension.

a quick google shows its instantly beyond a grand for any bilstein kit for that car, and could you bring yourself to fit anything less?

then youd have to get under the bonnet, the very packed bonnet. woe betide you if you find mechanical gremlins under there. few would be brave enough to start pulling that engine out in the back garden. if youre lucky itll want a couple MAFs, i imagine there are at least four lambdas...

good luck

I don't mind them missing bits out, but when they tot up at the end to show the profit, 4 brand new tyres is a pretty significant ommission :p

I seem to recall another program similar to wheeler dealers. It was presented by a bald fellow and they used to repair damaged motors. Can anyone remember the name??

Was that the one on Channel 5 where each week they gave the car away in a competition, can't think of the name though.

Wrong Car Right Car? Dom Littlewood used to host it. Think they bought write-offs and sold them to families cheaply.

i used to love that "sold in 60 seconds" about some guy buying cars from auction.

Show was **** but it was hilarious the reactions from people when he bought something completely off spec. Some girl was crying her eyes out when he bought a metro.

It's a great show and if it helps people work on their own cars by seeing something similar then all the better.
I particularly like the part when Mike pulls a face when he visits Ed half way through the work "Ed I left you this car 3 days ago and you have done nothing" he then pulls a face like Ed has slapped his kids.

I've just seen on Mike Brewer's Facebook page that the new series starts on the 18th September at 9pm on Discovery. I'm looking forward to it.
