Have you ever been in a street fight/comfrontation?

I did a lot of 'street fightier' in my youth, picked ryu or ken and spammed fireball's. Anyone who know's what their doing would not punch 'over the top' attacking from beneath opens your opponents guard. 3 roundhoses in a row? anyone who know's what their doing would step in between the first and second, shorting the ditance so your 'kick's' are inefective, or use a scoop motion on the first one to catch the leg, lift it up and step foward, atttacker off balance then on the ground. Roundhouse's are not usefull in street confrontation's as most go to grappling range within 30 seconds, elbow's and knee's are more effective.
Last time i was in a fight got a bottle smashed over the back of my head, it droped me to the floor where 4 of them stamped and jumpped on my chest whilst 2 others were football kicking my head. I was a mess. I hate fighting, but enoy controlled sparing.

Yep, street fights go to grappling and to the ground very fast in general. That's after the drunken flying kicks that miss and the wild swings of fists that might, if lucky, hit something (generally a wall or window) lol

Has anyone had an encounter which has led them to take some self-defense classes? I've not read the whole thread so apologies if this has been covered.

If so, have you felt anymore confidence in yourself?

Hehe put your head down and windmill punch seems to be common. Roundhouse kicks are used in karate competions because it's 3 points for a head hit, if you miss can put foot straight down so you've got your back to them, round is stopped then restarted when facing off.
I wouldn't fancy having my back to someone in a stree fight. Any kick above waste level is fighting mavity and only useful for showing off / fim's / competions.

i once nearly got pasted by a 6' 4" roided up power lifter in the gym once for having the nerve to nudge a sweaty sock of his that was on the changing room bench that he obvioulsy owned the entire space of.

I apologised and gtfo of there. Dreaming up 15 different ways in which i would have humilitated him had he tried anything on. Im well hard and can eat 3 shredded wheat. If i could only just eat 2 i wouldnt be a fat **** and have to go to the afforementioned gym.

I found once you get to a level of fighting the desire to fight diminishes. A qoute from my master

"Those who are skilled in combat do not become angered, those who are skilled at winning do not become afraid. Thus the wise win before the fight, while the ignorant fight to win."

I was mugged once a few years ago by a guy with a kitchen knife, who was plainly high as a kite. I gave my stuff to him and that was it. I have had some training in disarming people etc and it simply was not even worth considering. Who wants to die in the street over an Iphone, a wallet, a laptop and a jacket. Not I as last time I looked they had no lives to protect but I do. I must say I was also so surprised I didn't think of doing anything..it was broad daylight!

I have never been in a street fight, apart from in NI and that doesn't really count as there were lots of us and lots of them and they came equipped and so did we.

I don't think its very heroic to get into fights, its not a badge of honour its a badge of the stupid.

That is genuinly a problem, there are too many people with the "nothing to lose" mentality.

Spending a few years in prison isnt really a concern to these people.

Whilst normal people will consider the impact on their family, job prespects etc, these people care for none of this. Makes them a formidable fow in some respect.
