3DS outsells all sony devices combined...

The Xbox has well and truly destroyed the Playstation on sales this generation. I wonder what it'll be like with the PS4 and 720 (or whatever it'll be called).

I think the Xbox will have even more staying power now, simply because of Xbox Live and everything that it's brought to the table. It gave them the edge when the 360 launched, but now it's an established, recognised thing I don't think people will be quite so easily swayed to leave the Xbox and everything (i.e. achievements and gamerscore) attached to their Live account.

Sony is going to have to do something rather impressive with the next generation. That the PS3 is such a good Blu-ray and media player has saved it for the most part, but I'm not sure they can afford to rely on that sort of luck the next time. MS is going to be pushing forward with even more online services because that's where the money is and that's how you get people to use your console for more than just games. The PS3 beat the Xbox to the punch with iPlayer a full three years before the Xbox had it, and yet now the Xbox has more on-demand TV catchup apps/services than the PS3. Not to mention the fact that you need Xbox Live to use almost all of them, which is another nice trickle of income for MS. All Sony can do is encourage people to pay £40 a year by throwing games and discounts at them. I can't imagine it's a particularly profitable scheme either.

Because we still barely know anything about it, though it having probably a years head start might help it out, since devs will probably support it since it's something new, it will be interesting to see what happens if Nintendo do have a fair head start.

I wonder if the Wii U will be like the Wii. Buy it play it for couple of weeks feel depressed that you wasted your money box it back up to never use it again.

I only buy Nintendo consoles to play Nintendo franchises so I never feel like I've wasted money buying one, even if no third party games came out for them.

I don't see how that controller is going to work, and I don't want to be forced into waggling my way through the entire generation so I probably won't bother with the Wii U at all. Motion controls just feel like a stupid gimmick to me and that tablet looks godawful to use, can you imagine how uncomfortable that would be for more than a few minutes at a time?

Sony may as well kill the Vita now.

When you have 19 million+ 3DS's sold and only 2.2 million Vita's, why would you put any games on the Vita when your user base is so small?

what's interesting is that in the 1st quarter. ps vita was more successful than psp.

what's sony's target audience with the vita?

Adults, but they claim that was now part of their mistake.

Translates to the following.

Sony acknowledged mistakes in marketing the PlayStation Vita as said by Sony PlayStation Germany Chief Uwe Bassendowski at gamescom.

The most important mistake was to lose sight of the younger audience, a mistake they want to make right again. According to Bassendowski they want to change the direction of PS Vita marketing to focus on a younger audience and they want to improve their presence in corresponding media.

Furthermore Bassendowski confirmed that 2.2 million device have been sold worldwide. Specific numbers for Germany were not given.

If Adults were there target audiance then way make the GUI so fisher price and childish? It's off putting and one of the reasons i didn't go get one.

They also should have made the screen 720p even if the games are rendered lower because with my PSP i used it for many things like surfing the net, watching movies/TV and playing games. No point doing that with the Vita because the Galaxy S3 can surf the net and watch movies/TV at a higher res. Leaving the Vita's only use as a pure games machine, with a lack of games!

I'm 31 and loved the idea of the Vita but the reality was an overpriced console, with overpriced stupid Sony memory sticks and a small selection of overpriced games.

In actually using it I found it to be the most uncomfortable handheld since the original Atari Lynx, the back touch thing isn't intuitive, the buttons are too small and the 2nd analogue stick is badly placed and interferes with the buttons, I've not even got large hands!

This should get embarrassing for Sony next week, Vita sales have dropped to under 5k a week in Japan, where handhelds sell the best and Animal Crossing is out on 3DS and has already sold most of it's 500k allocation.
