What is the appeal of sports games?

I think he means online 11 v 11. In one lounge at the same time...to be honest I have never tried more than about 5 controllers linked to one PS3 at one time for FIFA. A quick google suggests it can sync 7 players active at once on one PS3?

Yeah Mario Kart is good. To be honest there are loads of good 4 player multiplayer games. If I had a gaming gathering we'd play all sorts, but FIFA would feature heavily I'm sure, mainly because I know people that like football I guess. Plus, you can have 7 players obviously.
 
Also I was was gonna play sim city but I guess I could just put up a little wall in the back garden, might play street fighter later, ah wait theres a street out there and people....

I didn't say you could or couldn't play whatever you wanted, so why are you bringing that up?

If the appeal of the game is building a great team or whatever then good for you. I've learnt something from the thread.

Completely agree with beat em ups, usually a good choice for gatherings.

No, you slated people that play FIFA. I play FIFA, my point is I like a lot of games. Can't really think of a genre I don't like really. So these people that play FIFA that you can't stand, what are they generally all like? I would love to hear this!

a lot of people like different genres of games....I've come across a lot of idiots that play MMO's and FPS games online, it doesnt mean they all are idiots.

I play a good mix of games from MMO's, RPG's Sports games etc and I love Fifa...playing online and working your way up the leagues is great.

Football Manager is also one of my favourite games, but I guess I must be an idiot.

+1 who cares what people want to play, gaming is as diverse as it is for a reason & having the option to play as you're sporting heroes is just as compelling to some as shooting terrorists or flying a jet fighter.

OP needs to stop baiting & grow up by the sound of it.

Now I'm sure this dosen't apply to ALL FIFA gamers, but from my personal dealings with people who do (and maybe I'm just around the wrong people) but I don't like them because they are groups of people that live on the "gang" mentality.

Meaning you aren't deemed "cool" or "accepted" if you don't try and convince everyone you are a badass, throw common courtesy out the window and treat everyone like they are less than you. A lot of them are involved with drugs as well. If they aren't up to no good you can find them down the pub or at a gathering off their faces on god knows what playing FIFA, getting all wild about their "AMAZIN GOAL MATE" like animals. Suggestion of playing anything else is totally out the window.

Thus why I have a bad association with FIFA players and stay away from it.

Please quote the exact line where I said I think people who play sports games are idiots.

I'm open to different genres and understand that people are drawn to different games. I am merely asking what the appeal of sport games are, because I obviously don't enjoy them as much as others and I don't see the appeal.
All you needed to say there was "I love Fifa...playing online and working your way up the leagues is great", job down question answered.

Makes sense, I don't like watching nfl so don't bother with madden games. Its quite easy to not play games you don't like. Doesn't mean I hate other people that play it though. Those bloody gangsters that play FIFA are really mean though and never let you get any other game on.
