Arctic Cooling Freezer Pro Rev 2 fan won't spin on Gigabyte Z77-D3H

Hello all - pretty much as the topic says, I'm having CPU cooler fan problems with a new build.

I have recently acquired a Z77-D3H motherboard, an i5-3570k, and an Arctic Cooling Freezer 7 Pro rev. 2 cooler. I know the Freezers are old hat these days but it's fine for my modest overclocking needs to get me started.

Basically, no matter which fan connector I use to power the cooler fan (CPU or any of the 3 chasis sockets), it will sputter weakly for a moment when the PC is first turned on, and then stop.

This has now happened twice - both on the first cooler, then exactly the same thing with a replacement.

The fan from the stock Intel cooler works perfectly, as does the fan from the first revision Freezer Pro that I was using on the system I am upgrading from.

I have tried disabling automatic fan control in the BIOS so that the fan should spin at its full RPM, but this makes no difference (though it does have the desired effect on the other two working fans I mentioned).

Am I just getting duff coolers from the supplier, or is there something I am missing?

Dunno how those BIOSs are setup, but is there a fan mode? PWM etc..?

Yeah, as I say, there's an option in the BIOS to adjust the fan - options including "Normal, Silent, Manual or Disabled" - have tinkered with all of them, but the Disabled option should, and does on the two working fans, make them run at full blast. The Freezer rev2 stays dead though :(

EDIT: On Manual setting there is also an option to adjust Slope PWM, which I did, but again it appeared to make no difference.
