What is the appeal of sports games?

That is exactly the sort of answer I was looking for in this thread, props to you tecman! He awnsered the question instead of just attacking me, maybe you lot should learn from him.
Maybe you should learn not to make such ridiculous sweeping statements

Last NHL game was 2009 I think, a very poor port using the PS2 engine. Such a shame, thankfully the finally did Fifa correct and the last two Fifa releases have been on par or better then console, still have to get my NHL kicks from a PS3 though..

Yeah I just read a review, such a shame. I have a ps3 but would mean I would have to then get extra control pads as I have 360 pads for the pc. Yeah the last FIFA was great, plays better than the ps3 version.

If thats all you wanted, why didnt you just ask that question?

Instead you made sweeping statements and generalisations, some of which apply to people in this thread.

You wernt just asking a question about what the appeal of sports games are, you wrapped it up in stereotypes and then wonder why people jump down your throat.

I did ask that.

Quoted from OP
"Anyway, whilst I've mostly been talking about Fifa, the point I'm trying to bring up is what is the appeal of sport related games?"

I merely provided some context from my point of view before that, as thats what got me thinking about the question.

Want a game of FIFA?

Look...if I made a thread, saying....I dont get the appeal of WoW can someone please let me know, as I think the people who play it are fat losers, who probably are virgins and will probably be playing games till they are 40 at home still living with Mum (I dont think any of that by the way) im sure you would have something to say about it, as it asks a question wrapped up in an insult to people who play that game....i.e a personal dig....get it yet?

What is the appeal of any game? it's subjective everyone likes different stuff, some people like FIFA because they like football some like it because they can play with sports heroes still more like it because they are all off their head on drugs.

Honestly if you asked me that I'd laugh, because you are just saying typical wow related stereotypes that we have heard for years and amounts to nothing.
I would then answer your question about what the appeal is.

For the third time so far in this thread, all I wanted out of this was to see what actually appeals to people in sports games, such as Fifa, since I would rather just go out and do those sports instead of sitting down to play them.

We can't go outside to play football. Too much risk of the needle slipping out my hand and tearing a vein, or spilling my cider over my nice newly nicked trainers.

Sport is a standard, most people know the rules, most people have played a version of some sports game in the past. It's a leveller, after 5 mins most people can put up a decent challenge on fifa. Put some other random game on, people have to learn the controls, learn the rules of the game etc. With fifa most (and I wont say all) people know *enough* to get involved. It also brings the tribal attitude out, as always with football. I'm a massive Newcastle fan, so if anyone dares to pick 5under1and then I'll pull out all the tricks & make extra effort to destroy them - it's an extra edge to a fun, competetive activity that doesn't always involve crystal meth.

Now sorry, need to sneak off to the work loos to get some dragons chased.

Pot calling the kettle black much.

Honestly now are you for real or just trolling? because if you are trolling you are a comedy genius of the highest order & if not you are a C___ of the highest order

I don't see how thats the "pot calling the kettle black".

The point of my last post was to illustrate that you shouldn't get worked up by people's stereotypes, because they are...wait for it...STEREOTYPES. Genius isn't it.

Yes but you seemed fine to create your own stereotype for FIFA players. So yes pot kettle black stands

I think you sir, need to go back & read all that you have said, then think how it come off to other people, then the only other thing you should bring to the conversation is SILENCE.

Creating stereotypes and taking them are two different discussions.

Everyone is guilty of using stereotypes, as am I. No question there.

However if people get insulted or offended over stereotypes, then I facepalm in their direction.

Think we are on two different wavelengths here.

I know exactly how it came off to other people, that was the point.

Technically I haven't made any noise yet.

I guess having a dozen or so people round to play 'dress-up my scantily-clad female flower-elf and kill some spoglings' is a far more appropriate than wanting to play Rooney or whoever in front of 80k spectators.

The trouble is your stereotype of Fifa players, is not a general stereotype accepted by others. It's just yours.

The Wow stereotype is a general stereotype of the worst that that genre can have. It's not representative of all, but definitely of some.

Now apply "It's not representative of all, but definitely of some" to your fifa stereotype - and the worst players of that genre. In fact, just apply your stereotype to young males, and the worst of them. Kinda fits, and it's nowt to do with sports games ;)
