Only posting as i've already spent over 2hours (the all the days leading up to this) and still ending up on the 680 most of the time. Even though i'm telling myself the extra money is kinda pointless.

Running 27inch @1440p.

May well sli at somepoint but still really want the single gpu fastest option.

Just the figure of two of theses over two of the 670's when by that point they will push more than enough for most things.

Anyway..

Difference is between 5 and 10% when overclocked (closer to 5%). If you want the best and you can afford it then go for it....

If you've done ample research then you already know what the performance difference is. Everyone here will tell you to get a 670 as £100 is a lot to pay for 5%. But it's up to you... Only you can decide :) ...

Been able to afford it yes, but I also should be saving. Doing this as I can sell my 6950 off at the same time.

I just started working away from home more often too, so its a bit gutting knowing it'll be sat here but still be nice to come back to.

If you're looking to save money definitely go for the 670. Although the 680 is the fastest GPU out the box (depending on the game/benchmark) it really isn't worth £100 on a build where money is an object.

This is a 680 SLI owner telling you this as well :).

The 680 is never going to be the difference between playable and unplayable over a 670. It's just a nice bump to have if you want to have it.

depends how much you care about a couple of fps. 5% is less than 5fps most of the time. the lightning 680 seems to be superb quality in terms of parts, and is a better cooler than the gigabyte all things considered (quieter, better components, better cooling, and of course technically 680>670). for those reasons i would pay up to £80 more for the lightning 680. but a difference of £120 is laughable in my eyes.

Decisions decisions indeed.

Currently just trying to justify it to myself. If I had the choice of waiting I'd hope to see it on offer.

Replying on a tablet now while at my friends who's getting the new pc to put my current gpu in. Hence the hurry.

I got my lightnings @£439.99 but they've gone in in price since then. £469.99.. hmm.

I'd still go for the lightning but I'd wait for them to go on promo. (I mean for my personal system, not in your position)

Tbh I have no idea what was going on with lightning pricing. When I bought mine they were the same price as the standard twin frozr 680s, then discounted on today only!

Wait for the next THIS WEEK ONLY you never now what might appear:)

I bought the system which my old card will be going in. Two parts were on offer, so figured order them quick.

Another 24hours to wait n see what comes on offer! While trying to sleep almost convinced my self to go 670.

You wouldn't notice any difference at all if you went for the Windforce over the Lightning, maybe lose 5-10fps (which could easily be gained AND more through overclocking).

one word of warning - at 1440p on a single 670 (or 680 for that matter), in some games you will be turning down some settings to get smooth frame rates... try to plan in for SLI for the best experience - and 670 SLI will be double the saving over 680 SLI

I'll comment on how well it runs at a later date, but I don't fully expect it to run everything perfect at all times.

care to quantify?
I had a 670 and bought a 1440p monitor and tried with one card... wasn't happy with the results so bought a 2nd 670, am now happy with frame rates

in BF3 (for example) I wasn't happy turning off AA to maintain 60+FPS and had dips to 40 on a single card, same with Batman AC, even at 1280 boost and +400 on memory

the OP might be happy with the settings he has to use to run the games he plays but just thought it fair to warn I had issues

Sorry, I should have elaborated a little further. What is smooth for some is not always smooth for others. Basically I looked at Anandtech and considered the games tested to be at a smooth framerate.

You use BF3 as an example and from the Anandtach site it gives:

BF3 - 2560X1600 Ultra Quality + FXAA High = 60.9 fps (that is with a 670 @ stock)

But then Metro 2033 only gives 34fps @ 2560X1600 with everything on and AAA + 16XAF.

Not an argument I wish to get in, so I will say sorry and at the OP's resoloution, he may need to turn settings down.

For any games that 670 couldn't drive, 680 wouldn't either.

670 wf3, cool, quiet, cheaper. Personally I would go for it.

On a lesser ground, 670 wf3 has good PCI power sockets (6+8 pins I think), has VRM and vram heatsinks and has a metal beam to keep from bending.
