Like an idiot let the door shut behind me. Anyone have experiences about how much it costs to get a locksmith to break in? Pretty standard Yale lock from what I can tell.

What a waste of money :(

Just have an image of this guy on his doorstep on his phone....

As above..... why pay someone ? Can you get in some other way & then fix it later ?

Windows ( break a suitable sized one), hinges (remove the bar if you have something like a Sunroom/conservatory with the hinges on the outside) - even use a credit card slid down the door frame. It's not exactly rocket science.

It amazes me that people still call locksmiths - as nearly every house have multiple potential entry points. In the middle of the summer - and there's no windows open ????

Surely if a guy is paid money to basically use a simple method of entry - you could alternatively use 30 minutes of your time to search the internet on various ways to enter your own house - and not spend any money.

Any external beading on a upvc window? if so you can pop them out and remove the glass, refit later.

Tried windows, would have to break them to get in. Replacing a window will probably cost as much.

edit: metal frame windows.

Ok quoted £55 plus price of new lock(optional) and jumped at it considering prices people are mentioning. Thanks for the responses.

Do lock smiths even know how to pick locks any more or do they just use bump keys as they are so quick and easy?
