Any external beading on a upvc window? if so you can pop them out and remove the glass, refit later.
My friend showed me this method, always makes me laugh at such a massive design flaw

the "optional" lock will probably cost you £300 after they have drilled your old one out meaning you cant lock your door[/sceptic]Ok quoted £55 plus price of new lock(optional)

Not 100% true.
most UPVC windows now have security glazing tape inside them now that sticks to the glass stopping the window from being taken out I am led to believe.
Borrow cordless drill from a mate and drill the lock barrel out, replace yale lock after
Like an idiot let the door shut behind me. Anyone have experiences about how much it costs to get a locksmith to break in? Pretty standard Yale lock from what I can tell.
What a waste of money![]()
not without a very expencive drill bit you wont,
there is a more simple way to solve this, and i swear this is what your locksmith will try first.
get a 2L bottle of coke, empty it, and cut out the centre.
you should be left with a ring of coke bottle yeah?
now cut this ring through, to give you two ends.
slip one of those ends into where your yale lock is, push it hard and pull you door back and forth hard, this will let it 'slip' the lock for you![]()
If it was a standard Yale lock then why didn't the locksmith simply bump the lock?? Would have been quicker, would not have had the hassle of drilling the barrel out and the time to replace it.
Could have charged £75 and been and gone in 2 mins
Because the punter starts arguing the cost if you turn up and get inside within 30 seconds. Best take your time, drill the lock out etc and the customer thinks he is getting value for money and has no problem paying you the call out rate.
NDE doesn't pay as well as DE (as you can sell stock you have on the van as extra's with destructive entry).
But any smith who's half competent can pick a Yale in under 2 minutes - but the customer will argue the cost/won't pay you once they are inside as they are embarressed it was so easy.
