Hello chaps,

The aux belt on my girlfriends car started squealing horribly the other day, I accidentally touched the alternator pulley whilst having a look and it was quite hot, too hot to touch for more than a second or two and the engine had only been run for 20 seconds.

The pulley does spin when the engine is running, I'm ordering a new belt and will check it all properly at the weekend.

Is this normal or is the pulley starting to seize?

Thanks.

What car is it, does the pulley have a clutch?
:)

It's a 2001 civic 1.6, a mk7 I believe.

I've no idea if the pulley has a clutch, though from some googling of the terms nothing comes up.

If the bearings have had it then I assume it's new alternator time?
