Ah ok cheers if you wouldn't mind mate. I spoke to someone earlier from Virgin who remoted on and was getting the same sort of speeds, 30-50mb, but told me it was probably due to the Olympics and their bandwidth allocation for it
He said to monitor it over the next couple of days and see if it gets better.

Yes .... it stopped midway through downloading several days worth of messages around 11pm last night and wouldn't reconnect to the POP server and just had my wife mention that she's not been able to access emails this morning.
POP3 still not connecting - via webmail I can see I've loads of messages waiting to be downloaded!
Update ... just done some googling and found a suggestion to turn off "connection security" (i.e. none rather than TLS/SSL) and that has allowed email to download. Doesn't sound ideal but it works for now!

Have been getting a fairly consistent 90-103mb this evening. This morning was the best result I've had though
