Is it possible to get Minecraft for the PC?

To be fair, as i work with folk who are a bit simple with IT (no offence op), i can see his confusion and actually agree a bit, the top boxes should specify PC version (gift) and PC version (self). They are making unfair assumptions about their user base which clearly, like it or not, are unfounded based on this thread.

Lest we forget gents that we come to our conclusions about a given situation, not because we are smart as such, more because experience has taught us to make assumptions that are largely correct. Do not fall into the trap of becoming arrogant merely because you made the mistakes that someone else is making today many years ago. That is disrespectful.

if you buy minecraft download tekkit straight away

the mods from the technic pack can be very complex if you are diving into them without any knowledge of them. i suggest following direwolf20's guides to the technic pack mods. look at the buildcraft, industrialcraft, redpower and mod spotlight playlists for all the relevant videos here: http://www.youtube.com/user/direwolf20/videos?view=1

however, if you are willing to put some time into the setup, there is something even better than technic. you can make your own mod pack by using direwolf20's guide and MultiMC.

with MultiMC you literally need to download the mods, drag and drop them in one of three places and go. occasionally you need to fiddle with config files but direwolf20's guide has a config file pack that you can download to make things work out of the box.

why should you go to this effort when the technic pack is so much easier to install? well, direwolf has included pretty much everything from technic but has also added:
portalgun
mystcraft
forestry
laser mod
Steve's carts
Modular Force Field System (MFFS) mod
doggy talents
and probably a couple more i have forgotten about.

also, if you want, i could send you over my config files which let you use:
secret rooms mod
trains and Zeppelins mod
Nether ores mod
Better Dungeons mod,
Rei's minimap*
Balkon's weapon mod

*just for the waypoints, the map itself flickers with portalgun portals open so i dont tend to use the map much

most the fun with tekkit is playing online with other people though.

if he installs all the direwolf20 stuff hes limited to single player

balkons and modular force field is in tekkit now btw

i didnt know about MFFS being in tekkit (never tried 7.x technic or 3.x tekkit) but i knew that rei's minimap, nether ores and balkons were in tekkit and better dungeons was in technic.

my additions were mostly to get the technic mods i really liked that direwolf had missed, excluding MoCreatures because at the time it was super buggy

there's no reason why you cant make another instance with MultiMC for a multiplayer server with the few SSP only mods excluded, which is what i plan to do when i can be bothered to get a little server up and running

Minecraft is my number 2 game of all time (uo is first). Game is simply awesome and if you haven't bought it yet, do so...now :D

I found another good tutorial for Tekkit/Technic is Duncan from yogscasts one. He is one funny guy!

I would recommend playing just vanilla at first if you never played it before though, so you can see the game for what it currently is and not have too much chucked at you at once. There can be a steep learning curve with some of the more involved mods (steep as in amount of things to learn not difficulty)

thats a very good suggestion. having watched all of duncan's tekkit series, all of direwolf's mod spotlingts and all of season 4 of direwolf's letsplay series i would recommend you start with duncan's videos to get the basics of how everything works but move onto direwolf's mod spotlights when you know roughly what you;re doing. if you find direwolf's mod spotlights too fast paced then try his letsplay series.

while duncan is more fun to watch, he doesnt know the mods as in depth as direwolf does

if you want a go at vanilla first then i'd recommend installing the inventory tweaks mod and optifine. inventory tweaks gets you lots of handy little shortcuts for your inventory and optifine gives you a much higher framerate and a few nice graphics options
