Final Fantasy 7 Re-release

People always wish for a remake, but truth is, that will not happen for a long time. Square Enix do not have the resources to do that currently.

Even then if they were to add some small changes to the PC version, it still seems like too much of an effort for them. Like the shadows to the characters in battle, they can't at least do something about that? Still looks like ****.

Least the CGI FMVs are better quality and in higher resolution, but its more like a simple blur filter to hide all the pixels. Still, nbetter than nothing.

a remake would cost them insane amounts of money/time...the game is HUGE

I don't think it would take as much time and money as people think to be honest. They have a lot of the assets already for example the story and how the game pans out and they could use the engine they used FFXIII etc and just retexture the game essentially.

I could be wrong though, I'm not claiming to be a masker game programmer :p.

Yeah look how long it's taking them for Versus XIII, it's easily surpassed the development time for Final Fantasy XII or XIII which was their previous longest (Around 5 years for both of them).

They are also working on the HD remaster of FFX as well. They've already missed the 10 year Anniversary date.

Too many projects at the moment.

When you consider the Compilation of Final Fantasy VII series, it adds a bit more complications to FFVII's original story now. They've added way too many other characters and sub stories from prequels and sequels that in some way or form, have to be incorporated and retweaked into the remake to make everything connect.

And then we find that Square Enix is working on a new game engine, Luminous. It is going to take a long while.

The mention of the Lighting Saga for the FFXIII series is coming in a few months time too, which we are highly likely to see FFXIII-3.

Are there any updated graphics packs available for this that we can drop in ourselves, like the sound? I'm going to buy it, but it would be nice to play with something that looks a little bit better at 1920x1080... :p

I read a few month backs about Square Enix saying not to expect a Final Fantasy 7 remake until they make a Final Fantasy or another RPG which beats the expectations of 7. So we be waiting a very long time, if the company is still about in years to come.

So its just the same game, but with built in cheats and phoney achievements to try and keep you interested.

Let me stop you there, I'm out.

I'd rather this on steam, my friend keeps telling me to play it, "Its the greatest FF of all time!" he keeps saying! XD

Yes, I've only played a few hours of it, I'm a bad person arn't I?

Have you seen the video playthrough for Bootleg, the mod configurator for FF7 from 1998? Looks pretty promising if modders can put higher res assets back into the game.

Also, I'm working on a page for Final Fantasy VII here comparing the different options to play on PC: http://pcgamingwiki.com/wiki/Final_Fantasy_VII - if you want me to add anything please give me a shout.

Most of the higher res/better background mods won't work due to them relying on Aali's custom driver which would be a massive pain to convert to work with the new version. I'm not sure about those done through .lgp though.
