Hi,

Been looking for a new car for a few weeks now and the Z4 coupe has caught my eye. I’ve always liked the look and they have a nice amount of power. Approved used seem to start at around £11k so it could be an option. I swore (literally) after my Boxster S that I’d never own a car without comprehensive warranty again and at £38pm for a Z4 with less than 60k miles it’s looking promising. I cycle to work (at the moment) so all things being equal the car will be used less than 500 miles a month.

So what are they like? What options is it best to go for?

I would like something a little bigger, mainly with 4 seats, however the logical option of an E9* 330i or 335i is still a little out of budget. Is there anything else you could suggest?

Thanks!

Quite significant, many things ie warranty, servicing can be 2 or even 3 times as much. But then the M is in another league.

A league I'm not sure I can afford to play in at the moment. From my vauge calculations it seems that the total cost of ownership of the M will be double that of the 3.0.

The Coupes are all E86's

I have an 06 in Dark Grey so any questions send them over.

I'd guess the running cost for the M is probably double.

Running cost for mine are as follows

Tax - £260 a year
Insurance @29 - £560
Averange MPG - 29-32ish
BMW warrenty - £490

I replaced my rear disks and pads all around for less than £200 (did the work myself)

Just had an oil service and brake fluid change that was £190 at an Indy, now doesn't need servicing for another 15,000 miles

Not had to buy tyres yet but a set will be £800-£1000

Mine has a good load of options, Confort pack, Cruise Control, Upgraded stereo, Bluetooth, Xenons, folding mirrors, BBS wheels.

The i guess other cars to consider in this area would be the 350z and Cayman, If you want bigger with 4 seats maybe a VW Scirocco?

I bought an 07 coupe a few weeks ago, so far I'm absolutely loving it! As far a fuel ecomy goes so far it's beating my previous car, an 03 Celica VVTLI hands down.

I love them. Fantastic looking and underrated cars. I had one for a few months as a CC when I worked for BMW. The 3.0 is awesome on fuel and the 'M' is a proper hot rod. I had to get rid in the end though as I couldn't get comfortable in it. It absolutely killed my lower back.
They are very very harsh. I would love to try one on non runflats to see if that cured them.

If you are over 6' tall I would definitely want an extended test drive to see if you have the same problems as me.

I have a 56 in Interlagos Blue so any questions send them over.

The running cost for the M is probably double.

Running cost for mine are as follows

Tax - £460 a year
Insurance @55 - £350
Averange MPG - 15-25ish
BMW warranty - £?

I replaced my front and rear disks and pads all around for less than £700 (did the work myself)

Servicing is variable but the biggy (Inspection 2) can be as high as £900 at a BMW dealer, more like half that from an indy.

you on the Z4 forum Oggie?

I am yeah, it's a great resource for anyone intending the get a Z4.

If you are over 6' tall I would definitely want an extended test drive to see if you have the same problems as me.

I'm over 6' and find the driving position great, way better than the Celica. Oddly enough the main reason I started to look for a replacent for my Celica was after fracturing my lower spine back in March, I was initially looking for something I guess more traditionally comfy (3 series) but after a spur of the moment test drive decided to get the Zed.

Errm wat? 11k is about the bottom of the market for trade coupe's, let alone approved used.

But yeah I fancy one of these also, need to save a smidge more aiming to get one by the end of the year.

Desirable options include....
Heated Seats
Xenons
Cruise Control (Easily retrofitted)
MFSW (Something like 200-300 retrofit)
Sat Nav
DSP HiFi upgrade
Cup Holders (£55 each!) :p

On top of that it's really the leather/interior colour combo. This combination inparticular is pretty hnnnnggghhhhh.

Seen this combo with extended leather once aswell chuffing gorgeous.

This is the same as mine though I dont have nav. Its got the nappa leather too which is nice but I'm not sure how hard wearing it's going to be.

These was a 06 yesterday with c. 55K for £118**.

Wow I missed that. I'm hoping that early examples with under 60k on are 10k by the end of the year, though the coupe seems to hold a good 1-2k more than the roadsters for some reason. Might just save the cash and go for the hairdresser version :p.
