Roundup. Use the powdered one that you mix with water and buy a sprayer off fleabay for a tenner, it works out cheaper for the amount you're going to need.

Give it a treatment then wait a week and repeat. Ask in B&Q.

Sad thing is that the roundup you can buy in shops nowadays is not a patch on what it used to be. The old stuff was deadly (to humans as well) so they had to restrict its sale.

You can still get hold of the proper stuff if you know people with licences to buy it.

I thought roundup is just glyphosate? I buy generic brand glyphosate by the gallon for 1/4 the price of roundup and it works just the same. You are diluting it anyway so it's not as if the strength is different.

I don't think roundup is terribly harmful to humans, it's basically an enzyme which makes plants grow too fast (until they die). It only works when it comes in contact with the leaves, and there is warm sunny growing weather. It doesn't work or roots or dormant plants. Usually takes a week or 2 to work.

I read somewhere you'd have to drink a few cups of it to be poisoned.

Just get on a decent pair of gloves and start pulling them up. Will take you a while, but exercise is good!

The main active ingredient of Roundup is the isopropylamine salt of glyphosate. Another important ingredient of Roundup is the surfactant POEA (polyethoxylated tallow amine), which is known for its toxicity in wildlife.It increases herbicide penetration in plant and animal cells.

A 2008 scientific study has shown that Roundup formulations and metabolic products cause the death of human embryonic, placental, and umbilical cells in vitro, even at low concentrations. The effects were not proportional to the main active ingredient concentrations (glyphosate), but dependent on the nature of the adjuvants used in the Roundup formulation.

So it's the mixture of the ingredients in old roundup which causes roblems not the fact it has glyphosate. Pretty sure it was around 2008/9 that the formula got changed for "normal" shoppers to buy in B&Q. The proper stuff you can buy from licenced people. I will have to check with my sprayer mate to be sure

Glyphosate has always been Glyphosate IIRC Greebo.

No change to its Potency. Certainly a 'clean' spray as far as human toxicity is concerned.

That bindweed is going to be almost impossible to get rid of completely. Pulling it up by hand or spraying it with... anything, isn't going to do the job. The roots of that plant will be everywhere, and pretty deep too. Unless you get those slabs up and literally dig it out root by root, it will just keep coming back.

I've lived in a shared house with a bindweed problem and it's seriously difficult to control.

Edit: For everything else, I use Resolver 24 which does a superb job.

its the % of the active ingredient which is different in licensed weedkiller. B&Q stuff will be 0.5% glycophosphate. Commercial stuff is 45%.

Spray with glyphosate. Repeat a week or two later. When it starts turning yellow and sickly looking pull it out by hand. Job done.
