How do you guys save your money?

Personally, I think I'm in a very fortunate position. Still living at home with parents means that I only pay board and very little towards other houshold bills.

I only fuel my car once every month due to using a works van and I seldom treat myself. My outgoings aren't that much when compared to most.

Suppose not having a mortgage round my neck helps too. Therefore I can save quite easily but as said before, I think it comes down to will power.

I take money from Current account and put it into a savings account. Simple as that really :D

This. I don't go out, I don't spend vast amounts of ££££ on clothes etc. I only spend if I really need something. Money isn't easy to come by or earn. I value it a lot. I've changed my whole attitude towards it.

im at the point where i dont need to buy loads of pointless things, i wouldnt mind some really expensive things, like new car and van but i know mine are ok.. so the money builds and i put it to one side, once ive done that i dont like touching it.. untill i get sick of work and blow it all on a holiday to america

I'm pretty good at saving...

Personally I'd just set a Direct debit out from your account on the day you get paid to a completely separate account you rarely check/log into/doesn't have a card for it...

You all say go out less, but how many of you have partners, and do stuff with them? It's very difficult to not go out loads when you're with someone.

I knew there was an upside to being single. :D

Sounds like the OP has plenty of spare cash, he just blows it on crap.
On payday save £199straight away. Then pay your bills etc. out the rest. This is how I save money.

If you keep blowing your money, as in every last penny, you will regret it in the future when you don't have anything nice!

I just put whatever's left in my current account into my savings account on payday. Simple's, sometimes it's as little as £200 sometimes as much as £700. I have nothing I'm saving 'for' currently so I'm not too fussed. Not saying I wouldn't like more $$$ though, graduate wages seem to have exploded this year but no promotion for me yet :(.

This thread made me think about a co-worker a few years back.

She says, hey have you got a minute?

I go over to her desk, where she is showing me a calculation she had some how managed to do all by her self on her pc.

The Total was -£386 (or some thing similar) and said what's that mean, I said what are you trying to do, she said I am working out how much of my wage I have left against my months spend.

I said there's your problem, you see where there is a minus in front of your figure, that means you're spending more than you earn :D

Totally shocked she was, to be fair shes wasn't on much but she didn't really care having an overdraft and all.

Excel spreadsheet with income/expenditure. Look at what you have left, decide how much you need 'luxury' money, put the rest in a savings account.
